After breaking a 5-game skid Friday, the Detroit Tigers seek back-to-back wins as they host the Toronto Blue Jays today in the third of a four-game set from Comerica.

However, the books aren’t sold, placing Detroit as slight -105 moneyline home dogs in the MLB odds.

Read below and see why the pitching matchup has this tilted in Toronto’s favor, as I share by my Blue Jays vs Tigers prediction and best MLB picks for May 25.

Blue Jays vs Tigers prediction

My best bet
Under 8.5 (-125 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

For what feels like the first time this season, the Blue Jays offense was churning, ripping off wins in four of five and scoring at least nine runs in three of those contests. Unfortunately, the bats reverted back to the mean Friday, as Toronto lost 6-2.

Even with the recent scoring bonanza, the Jays are putting up 3.86 runs per game, the fourth-worst mark in baseball, and they rank in the bottom half of all major hitting categories.

Jose Berrios gets the call Saturday, and after taking losses in three of his previous four starts, finally stopped the skid with a 9-3 win over the White Sox.

Berrios went six innings, scattering eight hits and surrendering three earned runs. He fanned six and struck out a pair. At 5-3, he’s tied for 10th in wins, and his 2.98 ERA is 21st in baseball. He’ll face a Tigers’ offense that isn’t much better than Toronto’s, ranking Bottom 10 in runs scored, averaging 4.10 per contest. Detroit is also eighth or worse in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, and OPS.

Unlike Toronto, however, the Tigers have an above-average pitching staff that ranks inside the Top 10 in ERA, WHIP, and opponent batting average.

Reese Olson gets the call for Detroit, and some offense would be helpful for a guy who’s gone 0-5 in nine starts this year. Olson sports a very nice 2.16 ERA, which ranks seventh in the majors. At home, that number drops to 0.84.

He’s allowed only 16 runs in his nine starts, and six are from a loss to the Pirates in his second outing of the season. The Tigers have just a lone win in his nine outings and have plated just 20 runs across those starts, which includes three shutout losses.

Berrios hasn’t faced the Tigers since 2022, but he’s won three straight starts against them, giving up just two total earned runs and striking out 22, going at least seven innings in each.

The Under has cashed in three of the last four head-to-head matchups, and with middling offenses and a pair of starters inside the Top 25 in ERA, look for that number to stay low Saturday.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Bo Bichette Over 1.5 hits (+110 at PROLINE+)

With two hits in Friday’s loss to the Tigers, Bo Bichette now has four multi-hit games in his last five contests, by far his best section of hitting so far in this season. He’s shredded Detroit pitching through the first two games of this series, going 5-for-9 with a run scored and a run driven in.

In his last 10 games against the Tigers, Bichette is hitting a crisp .293, and has hit safely in six games, including four multi-hit outings. He is hitless in just one career at-bat against Olson, but it’s worth riding the hot hand of the Jays’ cleanup hitter Saturday afternoon.
