The 2024 WNBA regular season rolls on past the Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday afternoon with a matchup between the Los Angeles Sparks and Atlanta Dream in College Park.
The Sparks have lost consecutive games to start this massive road trip that spans to the start of July. The Dream will welcome the end of the Commissioner’s Cup after going 1-4 in those games. They were 4-2 in regular season games before that.

My analysis
These two teams kicked off their respective 2024 WNBA seasons against each other back on May 15 in Los Angeles. The Atlanta Dream took that game 92-81 with Tina Charles and Rhyne Howard leading the way with 21 and 25 points, respectively. The Dream’s bench had a combined +/- of +35, while the Los Angeles Sparks’ bench had a combined -59.
As if depth wasn’t already in favor of the Dream, they may be getting Jordin Canada back from injury. She would be making her season debut against her former team. Canada was first-team all-defense last year and finished second in voting for Most Improved Player of the Year. She has missed the whole season thus far with a hand injury.
If Canada returns, that will not hinder Howard’s scoring chances but would rather increase her chances. Canada averaged six assists last season and would be a massive help to a team that ranks dead last in assists per game in the WNBA. However, even without Canada, Howard has shown success in the scoring department against this Sparks defense.
The Sparks have plenty of issues on the defensive end despite having one of the best rim protectors in rookie Cameron Brink. L.A. ranks eighth in the league in points per game allowed and opponent field goal percentage. They have allowed 81 or more points in 10 of their 13 games this season and in all six road games.
This will be a welcome change for the Dream from their recent cup games that showed several inconsistencies on the offensive end. However, they did score 89 and 84 points in two of their past three games. They also scored 92 points in their first matchup with the Sparks and their total is sitting nicely at 81.5. I will roll with the team total Over for my best bet.

Since the team total is not eligible for same-game parlays on most books, I will offer the replacement of just taking the Dream against the spread. The Sparks have only covered this number of 5.5 in two of their nine losses this season and will especially struggle to cover the spread if the Dream hit the team total Over.
Finally, I will throw in a couple of player props for the Dream. Howard is coming off a 26-point performance against the Indiana Fever and scored 25 against the Sparks in the first matchup. Her point total is only 16.5. Charles had 14 rebounds in the last matchup and averages 8.8 per game this season, and we get her total here at 8.5.
