Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt picks and predictions

Saturday sees a huge fixture in the Bundesliga as Bayern Munich host Eintracht Frankfurt. Since the long winter break following the World Cup, each team has played twice, including a slate of midweek games.

In those opening two fixtures of 2023, we saw Bayern Munich manage to grind out two disappointing 1-1 draws. It’s been a tough time for Bayern with both Manuel Neuer and Sadio Mane missing from the starting lineup. Neuer broke his leg in a horrific skiing accident after the World Cup, and Mane had scored six goals in 12 Bundesliga starts before his injury before the World Cup.

Without Neuer and Mane, they’ve had to rely on Eric Choupo-Moting — formerly of PSG and Stoke City — and one of the brightest young talents on the planet.

Jamal Musiala made his debut for Bayern back in 2020 and has since become a force to be reckoned with. Musiala plays at his best in an attacking midfield position, sitting behind the front man, linking play, creating chances, and making runs into the box. The 19-year-old is also capable of moving across the forward line or even moving further back if required.

In 16 Bundesliga games (14 as a starter), Musiala's scored nine goals and collected six assists. This has now become his team, and while he might look like a boy, he plays like a man.

Musiala's shooting, dribbling, and passing are all of a very high standard. Despite starring for Bayern Munich and Germany, it still feels like number 42 is slightly underrated globally. At odds of +175 to score on Saturday, I think the youngster offers an intriguing way to wager on this match.

My best bet: Jamal Musiala to score anytime (+175 at bet365)

Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt side analysis

Saturday’s matchup will be a technical battle with both Julian Nagelsmann and Oliver Glasner amongst the Bundesliga’s best tacticians. Bayern Munich will be sent out in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Yann Sommer making his third appearance for the club since signing earlier this month.

Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt are at the heart of the defense, with Benjamin Pavard and Alphonso Davies manning either side. In the midfield, we’ll probably see Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich, but Bayern’s real strength is their attack. Choupo-Moting isn’t one of Europe’s top strikers, but the trio behind him are exceptionally talented and should give him a platform to shine. We will probably see Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry alongside Musiala to start.

Frankfurt will line up in a 3-4-2-1, but it’s key that Kevin Trapp is back in goal for them as he’s arguably the best keeper in the league and can be a massive difference-maker.

Randal Kolo Muani really made a name for himself in Qatar, and the 24-year-old French striker will be a big X-factor as well in his one. Alongside Muani is Daichi Kamada, and the Japanese star is a very technically gifted player with a great range of passing. Kamada’s already scored seven times this year — more than he’s notched in any other Bundesliga season.

Bayern Munich are favorites for a reason, and you shouldn’t be too worried about their slow start to the second half of the season. They have enough talent to secure the win, but -300 is still too high of a number to wager on.

Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt Over/Under analysis

When the sportsbooks are offering -310 on the Over 2.5, you can be fairly confident that it should land. These are the first and third highest-scoring teams in the Bundesliga, combining for 87 goals between them.

There have been Over 2.5 goals in 62.5% of Bayern’s games at the Allianz Arena in the league this season so far. We’ve also seen lots of goals for Frankfurt when they’ve been on their travels, with only three games of two or fewer.

Given the trends, it’s hard to not see this being a high-scoring game. However, at -310, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
