Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Odds: Can KC Become First Team With 3 Straight SB Wins?

The Kansas City Chiefs dynasty may be undeniable, but that doesn't mean there isn't work to be done. The Chiefs could become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls. With that in mind, what's next for Patrick Mahomes & Co.?

Despite their sustained excellence over the years, doubters were unshy about vocalizing that this year's iteration of the Kansas City Chiefs did not have what it takes to win the Super Bowl. But after another classic Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid performance, the Chiefs are now back-to-back Super Bowl champions.

Super Bowl odds opened with the San Francisco 49ers — not the Chiefs, the team that beat them — as the betting favorites to win next year in New Orleans.

Now, let's take a look at where the Chiefs go from here as they embark on a journey to potentially become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.

Super Bowl 58 recap

Patrick Mahomes completed a whopping 34 passes on 46 attempts, good for two touchdowns and 333 yards with the only blemish being an early interception. He also added a lot of value with his feet, running nine times for 66 yards including an eight-yard run on 4th-and-1 from his own 36 to keep the Kansas City Chiefs alive in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers. He did it again for 19 yards on 3rd-and-1 later that drive, avoiding a game-tying field goal scenario and putting the Chiefs in prime territory to deliver his eventual game-winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman.

And while Andy Reid and Mahomes' offense is always the center of attention, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo deserves his flowers for his defense's performance in Vegas and throughout these playoffs. They held the Dolphins (third in points per game), Bills (sixth), Ravens (fourth), and 49ers (second) to just 63 combined points.

The standout on that side of the ball was once again Nick Bolton, who strung together 13 total tackles, including five solo tackles and a tackle for loss. This comes just a year after a near Super Bowl MVP-worthy performance last year in which he had nine total tackles (eight solo) and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

And of course, Harrison Butker cannot go unmentioned when talking about the Chiefs' win. Butker made a LOT of history on Sunday night, including breaking the Super Bowl records for longest field goal made (57 yards) and most career field goals made (nine) while tying the record for most field goals made in a game (four). He also moved to second all-time in career Super Bowl points, with his 37 now trailing just Jerry Rice's 48.

Chiefs next season odds

Although betting on the 2023 season has officially wrapped, it's never too early to look at the markets for 2024.

After winning 11 games, the Chiefs' regular season win total sits at 10.5, with many books sitting in the -130 range on the Over. They are considered shoo-ins to make the playoffs each year, and that projects to be no different in 2024 as they are priced in the near -300 range.

After their Super Bowl run — and given their potential room for improvement — it should come as no surprise that Kansas City is the odds-on favorite to win the AFC at around +400. The Bills and Ravens trail them slightly, and the Bengals round out the list of teams inside the +1,000 range.

However, the Chiefs are notably not the favorites to win the Super Bowl — that distinction coincidentally belongs to the 49ers, who are priced in the +550 range. The Chiefs are not far behind, however, and can be at +650. Baltimore (+900ish) and Buffalo (+1,000) round out the remaining top options.

Where they do not trail anyone is in the 2024 NFL MVP odds market, as Mahomes can be found around +600 but is trailed just a tad by Josh Allen and then the likes of Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson.

And, of course, these odds will swing more often than not as the offseason progresses and rosters take shape. So, make sure to return here at Covers to stay on top of all the latest news, angles, and insight.

Chiefs offseason plans and free agency

The Chiefs hoisted the Lombardi trophy despite fielding what is unquestionably their worst roster on offense during the Mahomes era, and ahead of them now is an offseason where they can retool to become the first team to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls.

It's always a bit tongue-in-cheek to suggest the Super Bowl-winning team has any holes to address, but it's pretty clear to everyone who has watched even just one Chiefs game this year that the wide receiver position could use some serious assistance.

Rashee Rice was a much-needed addition in the second round of last year's draft after Skyy Moore, the Chiefs' second-round pick in 2022, fell extremely flat. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mecole Hardman may have scored in the Super Bowl, but they hardly pass as acceptable players to consistently lean on. And then, of course, there was the Kadarius Toney experiment, which failed miserably.

The scary part for the rest of the league is that many draft pundits and experts project the 2024 NFL Draft to have one of the strongest and deepest wide receiver classes in many years. The Chiefs have been unshy about using high-end draft capital on skill position players, obviously taking the aforementioned Rice and Moore in the second round but also selecting Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round months after the last time they beat the Niners in the Super Bowl.

Given Mahomes is the Chiefs' most important investment, then left tackle is their second. It is an investment they will have to look at because current left tackle Donovan Smith had an ugly season (55.4 PFF grade on the season) and is leaving in free agency.

The probable departure of defensive tackle Chris Jones, who is the heart and foundation of the Chiefs defense, also looms. Jones held out until Week 2 this past season before receiving a one-year, $19-million deal, and after another trademark postseason run, the Chiefs are extremely unlikely to match his price tag.
