My analysis
The San Diego Padres have had a few unexpected players step up this season, but perhaps no one more than Jurickson Profar. The journeyman is back in San Diego for a second stint and he’s enjoying the best season of his career.
Profar, primarily known for his ability to play multiple positions, is a career .245 hitter with a .721 OPS. He’s blown past those marks this season with a career-high .316 batting average and .894 OPS through 84 games for the Padres.
The utilityman has found a home in left field and is regularly slotted in the two-hole, usually slotting between Luis Arraez and Jake Cronenworth. Profar has gone Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (HRR) in five straight games and 10 of his last 111 contests. Going back a bit further, he’s hit this mark in 15 of his last 18 games since June 7.
Boston Red Sox starter Tanner Houck boasts a 0.97 WHIP and 2.18 ERA, so it may be a bit tougher for Profar to get on base and drive in runs, but that’s baked into the current price. Odds of -115 imply a 53.49% probability, which is right on par with Profar's metrics.
