Sports writers are rarely analyst that played the game and ex-coaches. You think coaches are retiring and going to journalism school? Taking classes at night?

Yessir. You do have this from time to time. But...every SEC team is a bowl team. It is not like just one or two top teams. EVERY team. Except the smart team. Haha!

I mean the Mountain West and AAC are winning their bowl games — is anyone thinking that means they are the best conference? Nah. But when you put all of your teams in a bowl and with games left can still have a winning record? Come on. It is not like they are always getting the easy teams in the bowl games either. There are so many SEC teams in a bowl game that they are automatically over matching half of them by definition.
It is not like the seventh place team in SEC is going to play the seventh place team in another conference.

Nah. But the writers are watching the games. The coaches poll. The analysts in games. The commentators at halftime. The postgame guys, etc.
My only point on this is that all of this group, collectively, are experts compared to the average fan on here. That is displayed by anyone that really thinks the SEC is not the best conference.

Huh? Houston a ranked team? Auburn like 11th team in SEC?
Haha! I agree Missouri seem a fake SEC at times. I like that.
But absolutely — if you play enough games you will have some anomalies to pick and choose from.

Where is the evidence it was ‘created’ at all? I don’t even believe that — without evidence. I just know where it was ‘discovered’. You are saying some guys took it to China and left it there?
At any rate — there are plenty of these okie-doke threads elsewhere on here.
I was just saying it could be a factor this year with the cancellations and sit outs. Etc.

There you go. Changing the narrative. Where in this thread did anyone say the SEC isn't the best conference? What this thread is about is how outside of Alabama and Georgia, like many years outside if two or three teams, the SEC is overrated. This year's Bowl record is no fluke. They're still best this year and most but this year they are only best because the other conferences were hot garbage this year and Georgia and Alabama were so much better than everyone else. Look at the rest of the conference though. They're struggling. And you're talking about motivation and Covid instead of just acknowledging what's unfolding in front of your eyes. We all know the Tide and Dawgs are better than everyone. This thread is about the was about the rest of the conference.

Jesus Christ, you guys can't have one freaking thread, a college football thread in the college football forum, without talking about politics or covid, which is just politics. You guys suck.

Pretty sure I have addressed this at length. It isn’t not overrated. It is the best conference from top to bottom year in and year out.
The numbers show it. There is no narrative; these are facts.

Look at how many of their teams make the bowl games every year. So, folks like to point out that their 11th best team lost to the 2nd best team from another conference. Alrighty then.

@Raiders22
You're invited to a bowl game. So you can say, "Well, so many of their teams are in bowl games so they must be best." And if they are losing said bowl games, you can't talk about how good they are "top to bottom". If they are losing head to head in the regular season, you can't talk about how good they are "top to bottom". The top is the best there is. The middle to bottom are average to bad. That's what the head to head match ups say. That's what matters.

And they are the best conference. That's not what this thread is about. This thread is about how when you get past Georgia and Alabama, the rest of the conference is average. What say you to that? Are you refuting this?

This was your original post I responded to. I was simply pointing out this was incorrect and the numbers show it. Take the top two teams away and the SEC still had the most.
If you want to drag the conversation all over the place addressing various other issues, I am fine with it. Just do not say I am the one ‘changing the narrative’.
I get if you take whichever are the TOP TWO out each year it makes the SEC weaker. But it does NOT mean the SEC then becomes weaker than the others — because YOU shave to take the top two from the conference you sompare it to out as well. Say for instance, this year remove Ohio State and Michigan. What are you left with? Etc.

The head to head do NOT say this since 1998. Except to the Big East. Top to bottom they beat everyone else. Relatively, speaking of course, on average.

I am. And have done so — with numbers, not just my opinion.

Better paid coaches (so, assume on average better coaching). Better recruiting. Better prospects for NFL. More draft picks by more teams. More top round draft picks than other conferences.
I am not even saying there can’t be down years. The teams also change. But year in and year out since a long time back it is SEC, then someone else — and not always the same someone else. BUT it is ALWAYS the SEC on top.
Not really hard to see this. At least, I didn’t think so.
People just do not want it to be so. But it is.

Like I said before, if we were to take the Alabama's and Georgia's out of the equation AND the Ohio State's and Michigan's, what would that record be? Different story. That was what this thread was about. The SEC outside of Bama and UGA.
