Washington Nationals vs Milwaukee Brewers Box Score on Aug 20, 2021

Patrick Corbin snapped a six-start winless streak Friday night, when he tossed 6 1/3 strong innings as the visiting Washington Nationals beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-1.

Lane Thomas laced a two-run triple in the fourth and Riley Adams added an RBI single in the sixth for the Nationals, who have won three straight -- the first time they've won more than two consecutive games since a three-game streak from July 18-20.

The Brewers have dropped two in a row for just the third time since the All-Star break.

Corbin (7-12) was 0-5 with a 7.83 ERA dating back to his previous win July 7. But he was sharp from the start Friday, when he allowed one run -- on a seventh-inning homer by Avisail Garcia -- on three hits and walked none while striking out seven.

Corbin retired 12 of the first 13 batters and stranded Lorenzo Cain at third following a leadoff double in the third. Cain was the only Brewers player to get beyond first base until Garcia ended Corbin's evening with his career-high 24th homer.

Mason Thompson got the final two outs of the seventh before being pulled upon walking Cain leading off the eighth. Andres Machado needed just three pitches to get three outs by retiring Christian Yelich, who hit into a double play, and another pinch-hitter, Omar Narvaez.

Kyle Finnegan worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth to earn his fifth save.

Brewers starter Brett Anderson (4-7) allowed one hit through the first three innings before Alcides Escobar led off the fourth with a bunt single and Josh Bell singled one out later. Bell was forced at second on Carter Kieboom's grounder, but Thomas followed with his second big-league triple.

Juan Soto drew a leadoff walk in the sixth, went to second on a groundout by Bell and scored on Adams' two-out single. Bell added a bases-loaded walk in the ninth.

Thomas was the lone player in the game with two hits. Cain stole two bases.

Anderson allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 5 1/3 innings.
