The Round of 16 continues with France vs. Belgium in a game nobody expected either to be in. This game was set to see the runners-up in Group D and Group E meet, and it was a shock to see Belgium involved, let alone the hugely talented French team.

Get stuck into these Euro 2024 picks and take a look at my France vs Belgium prediction, where I think Les Bleus will prevail.

France vs Belgium picks, predictions, and betting tips

My best bet:
France to win (-108 at Betano)

My analysis
You’d be forgiven for not knowing who to bet on with both France and Belgium underwhelming so far, but the poor group performances have given us the chance to get France at -108 on the moneyline — something we need to take full advantage of.

France finished second with five points, narrowly behind the Austrians. They did only just win their opener, but we have to consider Kylian Mbappe missed their second game and had to play with a mask for the first time following his broken nose in game three.

Meanwhile, Belgium had a win, a draw, and a defeat to their name in Group E. They never really got going, and despite having Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, they don’t really have too much else to offer.

The defense — and to an extent the core of the midfield — lack real pace, which could be an issue when up the direct and quick attack of Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Marcus Thuram.

France haven’t been great but they have conceded just one goal in three games, and they have the ability in their team to control the game. Les Bleus have arguably the best squad in the competition and possess players who’ve won the World Cup.

The lack of pace in the Belgium team is a concern, as is their attack, which has scored just two goals. De Bruyne can’t do it all himself, and although Lukaku has played well, he’s yet to score. The biggest issue is the players around them, with Jeremy Doku seemingly adding little beyond trickery and Leandro Trossard not exposing yet either.

The French are ready to explode and play the game we’ve been waiting to see from them in this competition. Getting France at -108 feels like real value, so make sure you grab it.

Kylian Mbappe odds, prop for today

My best bet
Mbappe to score (+132 at Betano)

My analysis
We’ve not seen the best from Mbappe yet. Austria defended brilliantly against him in France’s opening game of the tournament, with Mbappe missing a sure-fire goal he’d usually score. He played relatively well with the mask, scoring, but it came from the penalty spot, meaning we’re yet to see a Mbappe goal from open play.

Given he scored 27 Ligue 1 goals this season, in addition to another 17 in other competitions, it feels like Mbappe is ready to put on a statement performance. This Belgium team have a good defense, but it isn’t blessed with speed, something that will be an issue against the electric Mbappe.

He’ll be coming in from the left and should have the beating of Timothy Castagne, making the +132 to score a goal very appealing. With 48 goals in 81 games for France we know he’s a superstar, this is his time.

France vs Belgium same-game parlay (SGP)

France to win

Kylian Mbappe to score

Romelu Lukaku to score

The big Belgian has yet to score but he’s actually played very well. He’s got an assist to his name and has had three goals ruled out already. He’s had 10 shots across those three games, and with his large frame, he could be a handful against William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano. Lukaku will finally get off the mark here, although it’s unlikely to be enough to stop a French victory.
