Dream vs Sun Predictions, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

The Dream are living a bit of a nightmare with Rhyne Howard sidelined, but Tina Charles has been turning back the clock, and our WNBA picks like her to show out against a tired Sun defense tonight.

Tina Charles heads to familiar territory tonight when she and the Atlanta Dream look to shake a three-game losing streak when they visit the Connecticut Sun tonight.

The Sun have dropped three straight, and Charles is beginning to find her stroke. My  Dream vs. Sun prediction expects Charles to have a big scoring night against a tired Connecticut group coming off a Thursday night overtime loss.

Check out my WNBA picks for Friday, June 28.

Dream vs Sun predictions

My best bet
Tina Charles Over 15.5 pts (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
The Atlanta Dream took a serious hit when Olympian Rhyne Howard sprained her ankle on June 19.

The Dream already had difficulties putting up points, and losing their leading scorer and playmaker wasn’t on Atlanta’s bingo card. One player who must step up in her absence tonight against the Connecticut Sun is center Tina Charles.

Charles is a fan favorite wherever she goes but tonight, the 35-year-old center is having a homecoming of sorts; Charles was a star at UConn and the WNBA MVP here in 2012, and I expect her to ball out for a Dream side with serious scoring issues.

The Dream have scored 55 or fewer points twice this season. They’ll need buckets to beat the Sun and it’s obvious what Atlanta needs to do to win tonight; give Charles the rock and let her work inside against the mediocre Sun interior defense, otherwise Connecticut will fire the Dream into the sun.

The good thing for her fans is that Charles is beginning to heat up. She’s always found her shots, but those attempts weren’t falling for her until recently; over the last four games or so, she’s found her range and has scored 16 points or more in three of her last four tilts.

Her range is inside the arc, and that’s where she’ll work tonight against a tired Connecticut group; the short flight from Washington won’t hurt the Sun as much as going OT last night at Washington will. Charles is making better than 56% of her field-goal attempts in three of her last four and will challenge a gassed Sun defense allowing 35 points per night in the paint. She’s outscored her scoring prop in three of her last four and I expect a well-rested Charles to continue this trend with a big scoring night.

Dream vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Tina Charles Over 15.5 pts

Allisha Gray Over 1.5 triples

Allisha Gray Over 2.5 assists

Charles must be the go-to lady tonight, but I also like two Allisha Gray props to round out our SGP card.

Gray has become more of a facilitator in Howard’s absence; the 29-year-old guard has 3+ dimes in her last three and I expect after five days of practice she’ll continuously feed Charles the rock.

Atlanta needs other scorers to step up tonight; we should also expect to see Gray jack up a few triples. She’s draining 38% of her triple attempts this season but is coming off an 0-3 stinker. Look for her to bounce back tonight, seeing additional looks against a tired Sun perimeter defense.
