Dream vs Liberty Predictions, Picks, & Odds for Today’s WNBA Game

Although the Atlanta Dream snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday night, they remain large underdogs ahead of Sunday's matinee showdown against the New York Liberty.

The Dream have struggled defensively since Olympian Rhyne Howard sprained her ankle, and my Dream vs. Liberty predictions expect Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu to take full advantage of Howard’s absence.

My analysis

The Atlanta Dream must feel like they are living in a nightmare that doesn’t seem to have an ending.

Olympian Rhyne Howard is out indefinitely with an ankle injury, and Atlanta’s “super team” of Tina Charles, Allisha Gray, and Howard hasn’t been nearly as good as the Dream front office envisioned.

Losing Howard to injury caused all sorts of nightmares for the Dream. They lost their best scorer and arguably their best perimeter defender, which led to a three-game losing streak that they finally snapped on Friday against a tired Connecticut Sun group.

Atlanta’s nightmare season continues as huge underdogs on Sunday when they meet Eastern Conference rival New York Liberty for the third time this month and the second time in seven days.

Making matters worse is they must defend sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu, as the Olympian is knocking down the fourth most triples per night (2.9) on 36.9% shooting. Although Ionescu laid a 2-for-11 stinker from downtown in New York’s Tuesday night Commissioners Cup loss to Minnesota, I expect a bounce-back performance considering she drained 4+ in her previous four before that outing.

Atlanta's stop unit is allowing a whopping 41.8% 3-point percentage across their last three games without Howard. New York has had five days of rest, and I am anticipating a well-rested Ionescu adding to the Dreams nightmare season when she clears 4+ triples.

The last time Ionescu faced the Dream, she exploited them with four triples and 26 points. Atlanta guards can’t stay with her, and she’s scored 20+ in each of her last four tilts.

Meanwhile, Liberty forward Jonquel Jones will see too much of Charles and Nia Coffey for her liking. The former league MVP managed just 15 points in their last meeting and 10 points in her first. Jones has reached 17+ just twice in her last five, and I'm expecting her to fall short again on Sunday.
