The Tampa Bay Lightning scored four goals in the third period to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3 on Thursday night at Raleigh, N.C.

Ryan Callahan tallied the go-ahead goal, and Brayden Point and Ryan McDonagh followed with goals. Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson and Anthony Cirelli scored earlier for the Lightning, who have a seven-game winning streak.

Callahan put the Lightning in front with 9:51 to play in the third period, cutting through the slot and converting on a redirection. Point's 39th goal of the season came about 6 1/2 minutes later on a power play. McDonagh's goal came with 1:05 left after the Hurricanes went with an extra skater.

Victor Hedman posted three assists, and Stamkos provided two assists for Tampa Bay, which recently clinched the Presidents' Trophy for the best record in the regular season. Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov posted his 83rd assist of the season on Johnson's goal.

Nino Niederreiter, Dougie Hamilton and Jordan Staal scored for Carolina. Staal also had an assist.

The Hurricanes were unable to repeat Tuesday night's riveting late-game execution, losing the middle game of a five-game homestand after winning two straight.

Tampa Bay goalie Louis Domingue stopped 25 shots as the team built more momentum after a riveting overtime victory a night earlier at Washington. Teammate Andrei Vasilevskiy made 54 saves in that game.

Carolina goalie Curtis McElhinney made 26 saves.

Carolina lost Staal to an injury after he was hit in the head in the first period, though he returned in the second period. Tampa Bay center Yanni Gourde was assessed a match penalty on the play.

Staal broke a 2-2 tie by scoring 6:34 into the second period, but the offensive chances started drying up for the Hurricanes.

Carolina had 13 of its 28 shots in the first period.

Defenseman Calvin De Haan returned to action for the Hurricanes after missing three games with a right eye injury suffered last week at Colorado.

Tampa Bay won all three meetings with the Hurricanes this season.
