Andrei Svechnikov's power-play goal at 3:14 of overtime completed Carolina's rally from a two-goal hole as the Hurricanes beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Friday in Raleigh, N.C.

Jordan Staal scored the Hurricanes' two goals in regulation, and Carolina goalie Antti Raanta made 22 saves.

The Hurricanes benefitted from the late power play when Pittsburgh's Kris Letang was called for slashing with 2:13 left in the extra session. Svechnikov has 23 goals this season.

Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby scored and assisted on each other's goal for the Penguins, who dropped to 23-1-2 when leading after two periods. Pittsburgh goalie Casey DeSmith stopped 39 shots.

Both teams were coming off key games a night earlier, so the No. 2 goalies were in the nets.

Guentzel redirected Marcus Pettersson's delivery for the first goal 4:28 into the game. That resulted in a huge roar from a large contingent of Penguins fans in the building.

Guentzel made an even better play on Pittsburgh's next goal. He sent a pass through the legs of Carolina defenseman Brady Skjei, with Crosby finishing the play for the score at 13:53 of the first.

Staal benefitted from Nino Niederreiter's dogged pursuit of the puck. Staal was left alone in the slot and finished the sequence when the puck bounced out to him at 4:20 of the second period.

Staal's redirection of Ethan Bear's shot tied the game at 9:48 of the third period. It was Staal's fifth goal in the last seven games after he had three goals in his first 46 games of the season.

The Hurricanes went on a power play with 2:09 left in regulation when the Penguins were penalized for too many men on the ice. Pittsburgh had only five shots in the third period.

Penguins left winger Brock McGinn played his first game as a visitor in Raleigh after six seasons with the Hurricanes. He received a hearty ovation when he was recognized during a break in the first period.
