Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins Box Score on Jun 25, 2019

Max Scherzer pitched eight solid innings, and Trea Turner homered to lead the visiting Washington Nationals to a 6-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.

The Nationals ace allowed one run on five hits and no walks while recording his seventh double-figure strikeout performance of the season, finishing with 10. Scherzer (7-5) now has 2,605 career strikeouts, two behind Tom Glavine for 26th all-time.

Scherzer won his fifth straight start. He also went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Nationals, who have won six of eight.

Anthony Rendon had two hits, and Turner's three-run home run in the fourth gave Scherzer the additional run support he has lacked in many of his starts. Washington's offense scored three runs or fewer in 10 of Scherzer's first 16 outings.

The Nationals struck first with a three-run third against Miami starter Trevor Richards (3-8). Juan Soto's RBI single scored Scherzer and Adam Eaton, and Howie Kendrick's fielder's choice drove in Rendon from third.

Turner doubled the score with his homer in the fourth. Turner hit Richards' first-pitch changeup over the wall in left-center for his sixth homer.

Fernando Rodney, selected from Triple-A Fresno earlier Tuesday, pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Washington.

Richards tossed five innings, allowing six runs and seven hits. He walked two and struck out three while dropping his third consecutive decision.

The loss was Miami's first after a three-game sweep in Philadelphia. The Marlins, who had won four in a row overall before Tuesday, have lost nine of their past 11 home games.

Plate umpire Mike Estabrook ejected Miami manager Don Mattingly and shortstop Miguel Rojas in the eighth for arguing balls and strikes. Rojas was called out on strikes for the first out of the inning.

Curtis Granderson's RBI single in the fourth cut Washington's lead to 6-1 and snapped Scherzer's scoreless innings streak at 12.

Miami's Garrett Cooper went 0-for-4, snapping his 14-game hitting streak.
