Texas Rangers vs San Diego Padres Box Score on Jul 29, 2023

Yu Darvish pitched six shutout innings and Ha-Seong Kim capped a four-run second with a two-run single as the San Diego Padres shut out the visiting Texas Rangers, 4-0.

The Padres' second win of the series was their 10th straight over the Rangers dating back to the 2018 season -- matching the longest winning streak against a single opponent in franchise history.

Darvish gave up three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts to improve to 8-7.

Texas mounted threats in each of the first two innings.

Marcus Semien and Travis Jankowski drew back-to-back walks to open the game. But Darvish retired Nathaniel Lowe on an infield popout and struck out Adolis Garcia and Josh Jung to end the first.

Leody Taveras doubled to open the second and moved to third on Josh H. Smith's two-out single after Darvish had struck out Mitch Garver and Sam Huff. But with runners at second and third, Darvish threw an inning-ending third strike past Semien.

The Padres then struck for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second against left-handed Rangers starter Martin Perez (8-4).

Manny Machado drew a walk to open the inning and moved to second on a Xander Bogaerts single. Jake Cronenworth then singled to load the bases. Machado scored on Luis Campusano's single with the bases remaining loaded. Gary Sanchez then drew a walk to force in Bogaerts to make it 2-0.

After Perez retired Trent Grisham on a short flyout to left, Kim lined his two-run single to center to make it 4-0.

Darvish retired 12 straight Rangers after Smith's single, the streak ending on Garcia's two-out single in the sixth. Steven Wilson, Robert Suarez and Josh Hader each worked a scoreless inning to complete the four-hit, 14-strikeout shutout -- the Padres' 10th shutout of the season.

Perez gave up the four runs on eight hits and three walks with a strikeout in 5 2/3 innings.
