Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals Box Score on Sep 02, 2021

Andrew McCutchen drove in four runs as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies rallied from a six-run deficit and extended their winning streak to six games with a 7-6 victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

Odubel Herrera had three hits for Philadelphia, which has scored at least seven runs in seven consecutive games for the first time since June 1933. The Phillies improved to 9-1 at Nationals Park this season.

Washington dropped its fifth straight despite the efforts of Juan Soto, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and a stolen base.

Sam Coonrod (2-2) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the victory. Ian Kennedy stranded the tying run at third base in the ninth for his 22nd save of the season and sixth since the Phillies acquired him from Texas.

The Nationals jumped on Phillies starter Aaron Nola for six runs on six hits over four-plus innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Lane Thomas put Washington ahead with a two-out solo homer in the third, his first of the season. Alcides Escobar followed with a single to right before Soto homered over the center field wall.

Nola allowed the first three batters to reach base in the fifth inning and was replaced by Bailey Falter, who surrendered Soto's two-run single.

Josh Bell followed with a run-scoring single up the middle, extending his hitting streak to nine games.

Nationals starter Paolo Espino allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. He held the Phillies scoreless until the sixth, when he was replaced with two on and one out by Mason Thompson.

After J.T. Realmuto walked, McCutchen's bases-clearing double cut the deficit to 6-3.

The Phillies completed the comeback with four runs in the eighth. McCutchen cut the lead to 6-4 when his single off Patrick Murphy scored Realmuto, who doubled to begin the inning.

The Phillies pulled even with one out and the bases loaded when Nick Maton's grounder off Andres Machado (1-1) got past second baseman Luis Garcia, allowing two runs to score.

Philadelphia took the lead when Rafael Marchan scored from third after Garcia hesitated on a potential double-play grounder that could have ended the inning.
