Pittsburgh Pirates vs Miami Marlins Box Score on Sep 18, 2021

The last-place Pittsburgh Pirates won their fourth straight series for the first time this season, defeating the host Miami Marlins, 6-3, on Saturday night.

Ke'Bryan Hayes doubled twice and scored two runs to lead the Pirates (56-92). They will go for a three-game sweep of the Marlins (62-86) on Sunday.

Cole Tucker went 3-for-5 -- his first three-hit game of the season -- and Hoy Park and Kevin Newman each had two RBIs.

Marlins catcher Nick Fortes, who made his major league debut, went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. He also singled in his first at-bat.

Bryse Wilson (3-7) won his first game since the Pirates acquired him on July 30 in a trade that sent closer Richard Rodriguez to the Atlanta Braves. Wilson, who had lost his first four decisions with the Pirates, allowed two runs in five innings.

Rookie Edward Cabrera (0-2) took the loss, allowing six hits, three walks, two wild pitches and three runs (two earned) in four innings.

Hayes doubled on the game's first pitch, advanced to third on a passed ball charged to Fortes and scored on Cabrera's wild pitch.

In the fourth inning, the Pirates had a leadoff triple by Tucker and a Hayes double high off the wall and nearly did not score. Tucker was thrown out at the plate on a Wilson bunt. But, with two outs, Newman's soft fly ball -- which should've been an easy play -- bounced off the glove of right fielder Jesus Sanchez, who nearly bumped into second baseman Jazz Chisholm. It was ruled a two-run single.

Pittsburgh stretched its lead to 5-0 in the fifth on Park's two-out, two-run triple to left-center. The rally was set up by Yoshi Tsutsugo's single and Anthony Alford's walk.

Miami got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on Fortes' two-run dinger, which followed Lewin Diaz's single. On Wilson's first pitch of the at-bat, Fortes clubbed a high fastball, sending it 413 feet to left.

Pittsburgh stretched its lead to 6-2 in the seventh on a rally that began with two straight walks to start the inning. With two outs, Tucker stroked an RBI single, scoring Tsutsugo.

Miami scored in the ninth when Lewis Brinson's two-out pop fly fell on the mound for an odd RBI single.

But, with two on and the tying run at the plate, Chasen Shreve struck out Diaz on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.
