Tampa Bay Rays vs Seattle Mariners Box Score on Jun 20, 2021

Shed Long Jr. hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners completed a four-game sweep of the visiting Tampa Bay Rays with a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon.

Luis Torrens and Ty France also homered for Seattle, which won for the seventh time in its past eight games.

The Rays suffered their season-high sixth consecutive defeat.

Right-hander Rafael Montero (5-2) pitched a scoreless 10th for the second consecutive day to earn another victory.

With pinch-runner Taylor Trammell at second to start the bottom of the 10th against right-hander Diego Castillo (2-4), Dylan Moore bunted down the third-base line for a single, sending Trammell to third. With the infield drawn in, Jake Bauers hit a hard grounder to shortstop Joey Wendle, who was shifted to the right side of second base. Wendle threw home to catch Trammell in a pickle and Trammell was called out for going out of the basepaths, with Moore reaching third on the play.

Torrens drew a walk to load the bases. Jake Fraley flied out to shallow left field before Long lined a 1-1 pitch just over the wall in right field to win it.

The Mariners led 1-0 through five innings after Torrens hit the first pitch in the bottom of the third over the wall in left-center field.

The Rays tied the score in the sixth. Wendle led off with a line-drive single to center and advanced to second on left-hander Marco Gonzales' errant pickoff attempt. Brett Phillips grounded out to the right side of the infield to move Wendle to third and Wendle scored on Manuel Margot's double to right.

Tampa Bay took the lead an inning later. With one out, Brandon Lowe doubled on a fly ball that went off the glove of leaping center fielder Fraley. Mike Zunino hit a ground-rule double to give the Rays a 2-1 advantage.

France greeted right-hander Ryan Thompson with a solo homer to center field leading off bottom of seventh to tie the score at 2.

Both starters pitched well but didn't factor into the decision.

Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan allowed one run on three hits in six innings, with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Gonzales went 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
