Oakland Athletics vs Minnesota Twins Box Score on May 15, 2021

Miguel Sano hit a three-run homer to highlight a four-run eighth inning as the Minnesota Twins rallied to snap their five-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Sano, batting just .114 heading into the at-bat, hit a 1-1 fastball from reliever Jake Diekman (2-1) 349 feet into the bleachers down the right-field line for his third homer of the season and first since April 15 against Boston.

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Josh Donaldson doubled and walked twice and Rob Refsnyder went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for the Twins, who won for just the second time in 10 games.

Alex Colome (2-3) picked up the win with an inning of hitless relief and Hansel Robles notched his first save pitching around Chad Pinder one-out double in the ninth.

Matt Olson and Mark Canha each homered for Oakland, which lost for the first time in five games against Minnesota this season.

Oakland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Seth Brown lined a one-out double into the gap in right-center and then scored on Olson's ninth homer of the season, a 420-foot drive into the bleachers in right-center off Twins starter Jose Berrios.

Minnesota cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the first when Cruz grounded out to drive in Kyle Garlick, who had led off with a single and advanced to third on a double by Donaldson.

The A's made it 3-1 in the third on an RBI single by Ramon Laureano, driving in Aramis Garcia who had singled and advanced to second on Berrios' errant pickoff throw. Canha then extended the lead to 4-1 with his seventh homer of the season leading off the fifth.

Minnesota, which left the bases loaded in the seventh, then cut it to 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth on Refsnyder's two-out RBI single off reliever Yusmeiro Petit. Sano then followed with his game-winning three-run homer off Diekman, driving in Jorge Polanco who had walked earlier, and Refsnyder.
