ANAHEIM, Calif. -- First baseman C.J. Cron had a two-run homer to highlight a three-hit performance and rookie right-hander Troy Scribner allowed just one run in five innings as the Los Angeles Angels finished their series with the Baltimore Orioles with a 5-1 win Wednesday afternoon.

Cron's home run, his seventh of the season, came in the sixth inning against Orioles starter Kevin Gausman and stretched the Angels' lead to 4-1. Kole Calhoun joined Cron with three hits and Mike Trout added two.

Scribner (2-0), making his second big league start in his fourth game, gave up a home run to Welington Castillo in the third and a single to Tim Beckham. He came out of the game after a fastball to Orioles right fielder Joey Rickard caught Rickard on the side of the helmet leading off the sixth. Rickard left the game as a precaution as Yusmeiro Petit replaced Scribner.

With two outs, pinch-runner Craig Gentry was running on a full-count pitch to Jonathan Schoop and tried to score from first on Schoop's single to center fielder Ben Revere. The relay from Revere to shortstop Andrelton Simmons to catcher Juan Graterol was flawless and Gentry was out by 10 feet.

The Angels took a 1-0 lead in the third. Kaleb Cowart singled, Revere walked and Trout's pop dropped beyond the grasp of Schoop to load the bases with one out. Calhoun followed with a sacrifice fly to center.

They added a run in the fourth on a Cron double and RBI single by rookie Cesar Puello. It was Puello's first hit in his first major league game and he would add two steals. He was recalled before the game and got the start in left field.

The Angels finished the homestand with a 6-3 record and begin a nine-game road trip to Seattle, Washington and Baltimore. They remain in the multi-team pile of AL teams fighting for a wild-card playoff berth, as do the Orioles.

The Orioles pitched well in the series but had little offense to show for it. They scored nine runs in the three games, and four of them came on Manny Machado's grand slam in the series opener.

Gausman (8-8) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, walked two and struck out six. The Angels added a run in the eighth when reliever Zach Britton walked Cowart with the bases loaded.

Petit allowed just one hit and struck out three in two innings of relief. Keynan Middleton allowed a single in a scoreless eighth and Blake Parker pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Orioles continue their West Coast road trip, playing four games at Oakland and three at Seattle.

NOTES: Angels OF Cesar Puello was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake and started in left field, making his major league debut. He went 1-for-3 and stole two bases. The 26-year-old hit .327 with 13 home runs, 61 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 87 games in Triple-A. ... Angels LHP Jose Alvarez was optioned to Salt Lake. ...
