SAN DIEGO -- Native San Diegan A.J. Griffin held the San Diego Padres to four hits in a complete-game shutout and the Texas Rangers got to struggling Padres starter Jered Weaver for seven runs in three innings Tuesday afternoon to score an 11-0 victory and earn a split of the two-game series at Petco Park.

Three Rangers homered. First baseman Ryan Rua (a three-run shot in the first) and third baseman Joey Gallo (a two-run shot in the third) homered off Weaver. Catcher Robinson Chirinos hit a two-run homer off right-handed reliever Kevin Quackenbush in the seventh.

Griffin, who attended Grossmont High and the University of San Diego, was facing the Padres for the first time in his career.

In addition to the four hits, Griffin issued one walk, and he had four strikeouts. Only two Padres advanced as far as second base. The right-hander retired the first seven and the last 10 Padres he faced. Griffin retired the side in order in six innings.

The shutout was the second of Griffin's career.

Griffin improved to 4-0 on the season while lowering his earned run average to 2.54.

Meanwhile, Weaver's struggles continued to escalate.

The 34-year-old veteran of 12 major-league seasons gave up seven runs on six hits, two walks and two hit batters in three innings to fall to 0-4 and continue a downward slide.

Over his last three starts, Weaver has given up 22 runs (17 earned) on 22 hits, four walks and two hit batters in 12 2/3 innings. His earned run average has shot up from 3.91 to 6.81 over those three starts.

Plus, the two home runs allowed by Weaver Tuesday raised his National League-worst count to 14.

Weaver opened Tuesday's game by hitting Shin-Soo Choo with a pitch. Elvis Andrus followed with a single ahead of a two-run double by Nomar Mazara -- giving Texas a 2-0 lead before Weaver retired a hitter. Mazara advanced to third on a sharp single by Rougned Odor. Both scored on Rua's second homer of the season.

Odor singled in the third and scored on Gallo's 11th homer of the season to close the book on Weaver.

Chirinos' fifth homer of the season followed a RBI single by Gallo.

The two teams fly to Texas for the second half of the home-and-home four-game set Wednesday and Thursday.

NOTES : OF Matt Szczur grounded out as a pinch hitter in his Padres debut Tuesday. He then finished the game in left field. ... The Padres optioned OF Jabari Blash to Triple-A El Paso to make room for Szczur on the 25-man roster. ... Texas manager Jeff Banister moved RF Shin-Soo Choo into the lead-off spot Tuesday because of his past success against Weaver (17-for-42). Weaver hit him with a pitch in the first.
