Bournemouth vs Manchester United Predictions and Picks: Cherry Picking

With very little to play for in the EPL season, Man United take their circus act to Bournemouth to take on a Cherries side that's performed admirably this season. With a lack of intent, our soccer expert Chris Vasile believes a slow start from both sides is in store.

If you told any Manchester United fan they'd be closer in the table to Bournemouth than securing a European spot, they would have laughed you off and called you a bad British word. Yet, here we are.

Manchester United's hopes of playing European football next year are coming to a screeching halt as they sit 11 points back of Aston Villa and Tottenham who occupy fourth and fifth.

Bournemouth, who are often in a relegation battle, have been admirably good and have reached the 40-point mark (presumed safety) with seven games left.

Will the Cherries continue their run of form and add more misery to Man United's already miserable season?

Find out as I break down the EPL odds and offer my best free picks for Bournemouth vs. Manchester United on Saturday, April 13.

EPL predictions for Bournemouth vs Manchester United

For many years under Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United was among the best teams on the defensive side of the field in limiting opposition chances and goals.

Since his retirement, and through the revolving door of managers, the Red Devils' gatekeeping has been poor. They've kept just two clean sheets over their last 10 fixtures in all competitions, and have seen their net breached nine times over their last four.

However, you have to take into consideration their opponents: Liverpool (x2), Chelsea, and Brentford are all teams that pack a punch.

Bournemouth, while they're having a great season by their standards and have plenty to play for, aren't exactly throwing caution to the wind. Each of their last three fixtures have been scoreless heading into half time and with a chance to push their way into the top half of the table, I believe a cautious approach is the recipe for success.

Throw in the fact the Cherries have scored a league-low five first-half goals at home this season, and it wouldn't shock me to see them involved in their fourth straight nil-nil half.

My best bet: Under 1.5 goals — First Half (-139 at TonyBet)

Bournemouth vs Manchester United same-game parlay

Under 2 goals — First Half

Neto Over 2.5 saves

Marcus Rashford Over 1.5 shots on target

While I expect a low-scoring first half, the goal attempts will ramp up and the visitors should be the ones to dictate the play given they are, Manchester United.

Bournemouth is in the bottom half of the table in terms of shots allowed per game, and Manchester United's 'throw caution to the wind' approach will provide them plenty of opportunity.

Marcus Rashford will need to be better than he's been of late, and I believe he'll come out wearing his shooting boots for this fixture.

Bournemouth vs Manchester United side and Over/Under analysis

  • Both sides opened at a dead even +150 with the draw sitting at +280. However, the Cherries have seen money pour in as they are +130 at most books with United drifting to +180.
  • With an FA Cup semifinal tie on the horizon, it wouldn't surprise me to see Man United close as a bigger underdog with a lesser lineup.
  • The total opened at 2.5 with heavy juice to the over, and it's since been trending up towards 3.5 at a plus-money price
