Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches picks and predictions

Eric Cole Top 20 (+140)

Eric Cole was long overdue for a week off after making seven straight starts going back to Kapalua in early January.

The Mexico Open presented such an opportunity after finishing T21 or better in five of those seven events. Go back even further and you’re looking at a guy who’s logged Top-25 results in 11 of 15 starts dating back to August.

That form has him third in this field in true total strokes gained over the last six months thanks to Top-10 ranks in strokes gained approach and strokes gained tee-to-green.

He now returns to PGA National after losing in a playoff in his debut a season ago. That success, the form, and the week off all point to another week in contention.

Pick: Eric Cole Top 20 (+140 at DraftKings)

Shane Lowry Top 30 (+110)

Considering the venue, Shane Lowry might just be second on the board if not for some forgettable form.

He’s made just three starts in 2024, with a T25 finish at the Farmers sandwiched between a missed cut at the Amex and a T60 in Phoenix, but besides a horrible putting week at PGA West, there’s nothing particularly alarming about his metrics and he did go T3-T18-T18 in three DP World Tour starts before that.

With that said, it’s his success here at PGA National that should draw you to Lowry this week. He’s 6-for-6 for his career and finished runner-up in 2022 and T5 last season whilst ranking second and first, respectively, in strokes gained tee-to-green.

Those are the metrics that suggest he’ll be able to get back on track in Florida.

Pick: Shane Lowry Top 30 (+110 at DraftKings)

Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches field and favorites

The list of superstars in this field starts and stops with World No. 2 Rory McIlroy. He enters the week with short +700 odds and is the only guy on the board with shorter than 20/1 odds as of Monday afternoon.

It's been a bit of a sloppy start to the PGA Tour season for Rory, who finished T66 at Pebble Beach and T24 at Riviera, the worst finishes he's logged since the Wells Fargo last May.

He does come to PGA National with a resume, however, having played here nine times between 2009 and 2018. He has a win to his name in 2012 and finished runner-up in 2014.

Cameron Young sits second on the board at 22/1 after finishing T8 in Phoenix and T16 at Riviera. He also finished T16 in his PGA National debut in 2022.

Russell Henley sits third on the board at 25/1. Other notables include Matt Fitzpatrick at 28/1, defending champion Chris Kirk at 35/1, and 2022 winner Sepp Straka at 40/1.
