The Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars are deadlocked at 2-2 heading into Game 5 of the Western Conference Final, and it's been old-school playoff hockey with the referees swallowing their whistles and the Under being one empty-net goal away from being 3-1.

The total is on the rise from 5.5 to 6 after some higher-scoring games in Edmonton, but I sense things calming down heading into this pivotal clash in Dallas. Join me as I give out my NHL picks and form a same-game parlay for Oilers vs. Stars Game 5 with a generous payout due to some non-correlated plays.

Oilers vs Stars same-game parlay picks May 31

  • Oilers alt. team total Under 3.5
  • Kane anytime goalscorer
  • Heiskanen Under 0.5 points

Best Oilers vs Stars SGP for Friday

Oilers alt. team total Under 3.5

Evander Kane anytime goalscorer

Miro Heiskanen Under 0.5 points

With pucks finding their way into empty nets in three of four games, the lone exception being the Edmonton Oilers' Game 1 win in overtime, I'm leery about playing the total at either 5.5 or 6 in this SGP due to the risks of losing by one leg or pushing. Still, I think we'll see a low-scoring affair in Game 5, so I'll fade the Oilers' offense on the road vs. the Dallas Stars.

The Oilers scored three goals or fewer in each of the first three games of this series. Looking back at the final five games of the Canucks series, Edmonton has failed to tally 4+ goals in seven of their last nine contests overall.

Edmonton is in search of its first power-play goal in this series, but it's only had six chances. I wouldn't expect the Oilers' opportunities to perk up with Dallas boasting home ice in Game 5, especially considering the Stars drew the third-fewest penalties in the regular season.

DraftKings offers a big boost in this SGP by adding Evander Kane to score while taking Edmonton to go below four goals. Though he's yet to find the twine in this series, Kane has the fourth-most shots (12) of any player on either side and is getting the fifth-highest ice time of any forward for the Oilers, both overall this postseason and in this series alone.

Kane scored twice in the final three games of the Canucks series and had two goals vs. the Kings in the quarterfinals.

We'll close this parlay out by adding Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen to go without a point. His lone goal in this series was an empty-netter, and he has just four shots on goal through four games. A lack of power-play chances has and will continue to hurt his production as he plays on Dallas' top man-advantage line. Nearly 40% of his points — both regular season and postseason — have come on the power play.
