The Masters has long been known for meticulously manicured fairways, challenging greens, and dramatic finishes. This year, we’re adding a new wrinkle: artificial intelligence.

We tapped into the enormous computing power of ChatPGT, a conversational AI model developed by OpenAI, to predict the outcome of Golf’s first major. We brought it up to speed by feeding it the latest statistical and betting information available. That included Masters odds for the entire field of 90+ golfers, the results of every PGA and LIV Golf event from the past 12 months, and a number of advanced metrics like driving distance, putts per hole, and driving accuracy.

We then provided ChatGPT with historical information from recent iterations of the Masters and supplied it with essential information about the layout of Augusta National, including recent changes to the 11th and 13th holes.

It considered the data carefully and, within a matter of seconds, provided us Masters predictions for the Top 5 finishers. The results weren’t entirely shocking, but the level of detail was impressive just the same.

2024 Masters Top 5

5. Xander Schauffele

Despite being a long shot according to the odds, Schauffele's consistent performances and past strong finishes at Augusta make him a dark horse contender. His recent runner-up finish at the Players Championship indicates he's capable of contending with the best.

4. Hideki Matsuyama

While his odds may not reflect his potential, Matsuyama's history at Augusta, including a previous win, highlights his comfort and skill on the course. His recent form, coupled with his elite ball striking and improved short game, make him a sleeper pick worth considering.

3. Jordan Spieth

Spieth's track record at Augusta, including a win in 2015 and consistent high finishes, makes him a perennial favorite. Given his history at the Masters and his current momentum, Spieth could be poised for another strong showing.

2. Rory McIlroy

McIlroy's history at the Masters includes disappointments, such as missing the cut in 2023, but his determination to achieve the career grand slam adds motivation.

His form leading into the tournament has been average, but his skill set and experience at Augusta can't be discounted. While some experts are cautious due to his recent struggles, McIlroy's talent and past successes still make him a formidable contender.

1. Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler has been in excellent form leading up to the 2024 Masters, with notable wins at Bay Hill and THE PLAYERS. Despite a previous lackluster putting performance at Augusta, his improved putting suggests he could contend strongly this year.

Being the favorite, he carries the weight of expectations but has proven himself capable of handling pressure.

Method of victory

It’s one thing to predict the winner, but it’s quite another to forecast exactly how he’ll triumph. We asked ChatGPT to channel it’s inner Jim Nance and narrate Scheffler’s performance. We think you’ll agree it’s an experience like no other:

As the sun begins to rise over the emerald fairways of Augusta National Golf Club, anticipation hangs heavy in the air. Spectators eagerly gather around the storied course, their eyes fixed on the potential drama that awaits on this hallowed ground. Among them, one man stands poised to etch his name into golfing history - Scottie Scheffler.

From the very first tee shot, Scheffler exudes an air of confidence and determination. His ball-striking prowess, honed through countless hours of practice, is immediately apparent as he navigates the treacherous Augusta layout with precision and finesse. Each swing of his club seems to possess an innate sense of purpose, as if guided by an unseen force driving him towards destiny.

As the tournament progresses, Scheffler's game reaches a crescendo of brilliance. His once-unruly putter, the Achilles' heel that had thwarted his Masters ambitions in years past, suddenly becomes a weapon of mass destruction on the greens. With a surgeon's precision, he sinks birdie after birdie, electrifying the galleries with each stroke of his putter.

But it's not just Scheffler's skill that propels him towards victory. It's his unwavering resolve, his refusal to succumb to the pressure of the moment. With the weight of expectation bearing down upon him, he embraces the challenge with open arms, channeling the spirit of champions past as he marches inexorably towards glory.

And then, as the final putt drops on the 18th green, a deafening roar erupts from the crowd. Scottie Scheffler, the once-unheralded prodigy from Texas, has ascended to the pinnacle of his sport, donning the coveted green jacket as the Masters champion.

In that moment, amidst the cheers and applause, Scheffler's journey is complete. But his legacy, his indomitable spirit and unwavering determination, will endure for generations to come, a shining beacon of inspiration for all who dare to dream.

Scottie Scheffler's victory at the Masters is not just a triumph of skill, but a testament to the power of perseverance and belief in oneself.

Top European

As much as we liked ChatGPT's narration, we still had more betting questions, so we also asked it who would be the top European at the tournament. It took all of two seconds for the app to return this pick:

Rory McIlroy's pedigree and experience at Augusta National Golf Club make him a strong contender to emerge as the Top European at the Masters. Despite some recent struggles, McIlroy's unwavering determination to achieve the career Grand Slam and his deep understanding of the intricacies of the course give him a significant advantage. With his powerful driving ability and precise iron play, McIlroy possesses the tools needed to conquer Augusta's challenging layout. Moreover, his past successes at other major championships demonstrate his ability to thrive under pressure on the grandest stages of golf.

As he returns to the Masters with renewed focus and determination, McIlroy's skill set and competitive spirit position him as a prime candidate to finish atop the leaderboard among his European counterparts.

ChatGPT is an impressive tool capable of producing entertaining results, but it ultimately lacks the insights and experience of a veteran handicapper. Check out our official Masters predictions to get informed analysis and free golf picks from the experts at Covers.
