Championship Game:
I'm picking Michigan to win because I think this is a horrible match up for the Huskies, plain and simple. If there's a team that can cause trouble for the best offense in the country, it is without a doubt the Wolverines. Michigan has been built and constructed to beat the high-powered offense that Ohio State produces. The Huskies may have possibly the best offensive line, but Michigan's defensive line will be their biggest challenge yet. It's not just that I think Michigan will win the at the line, but it's the defensive schemes that come after the quarterback. This is my favorite handicap for the game. That's where the matchup turns the table, and Penix is not mobile enough to escape the pressure that's coming. Michigan constantly fakes pressure and brings different blitzes. It's not only confusing as shit, I believe it's enough to rattle Penix and throw him off his game just a bit. We've seen Penix get rattled and throw interceptions in the past. His interception prop is now -234, and it's that high for a reason. Michigan is #2 in turnover margin and I think they will create havoc causing more than one turnover this game. Michigan also has the fewest penalties per game and Washington ranked #126.
My other main reason for taking the Wolverines is because the Huskies defense is atrocious. If Washington won it would be the worst defense to win a championship since the BCS era began (25 years). Let that soak in a bit. Huskies give up 400+ yards a game and 6 times this season they let teams score 30+. Texas was able to run the ball easily and if Sark had a brain he should have stuck to what was working. Washington gave up 500 yards to Texas and that's without them even having Brooks at back. Michigan should have no problem pounding the rock and keeping Penix sidelined. Blake Corum's rushing prop is set over 105 yards for a reason. TOP (ranked 12th) is there specialty and if you've watched this team they bleed the clock efficiently. To easily simplify, Washington scores 37 PPG and Michigan 36 PPG, but the maize and blue play defense. Michigan's passing efficiency is ranked #5, also better than Washington #11. Yes, I had to do a double take on that stat, but McCarthy is very efficient. If Dillion Johnson is more banged up than leads on it will also be a huge advantage. That did not look when he couldn't get back up.
Michigan looked horrible last weekend, and still found a way to win. A muffed punt, missed extra point, and a missed field goal. I do not see those mistakes happening again, and now a little pressure is off their backs. With all this said, I am a Buckeyes alum and if Xichigan wins the natty... my pocket may be a little lighter but I'll be smiling deep down inside. BOL this weekend. Any discussion is welcome.
