Italian Grand Prix Odds: History Against Verstappen in Italy

Max Verstappen is once again the heavy favorite this weekend but history isn't exactly on his side as he's never won the Italian Grand Prix and his best finish was fifth. Nevertheless, oddsmakers aren't deterred and have him installed as a -150 favorite.

Dutch Grand Prix Prix favorites

Max Verstappen (-150)

Verstappen continued his hot stretch with a big victory at the Dutch Grand Prix last Sunday for his 10th win of 2022 and his fourth straight. He leads the driver standings with 310 points (with the next closest being Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez, each with 201).

As such, the 24-year-old is consistently listed as the betting favorite ahead of each new race week. However, he's never won the Italian Grand Prix and his best finish was fifth in 2018. He was forced to retire early in each of the last two editions of the race as well.

Will Verstappen get the monkey off his back or will his trend of lesser efforts in Italy continue?

Charles Leclerc (+120)

Unlike Verstappen, Leclerc has claimed victory in Italy, winning the Italian GP in 2019. He finished fourth in 2021, so he's already got a pair of finishes that rank better than Verstappen's best at the event.

Leclerc is also coming off a strong, third-place finish at the Dutch GP in his last showing, and succesfully claimed pole position on Saturday.

George Russell (+1,400)

The 24-year-old is now third on the board after landing the second spot on the starting grid. In 16 starts with Mercedes, the Brit has six podium finishes.

Russell has 75 starts in his F1 career and has yet to claim first place. Could that all change on Sunday?

Understanding F1 betting odds

The most popular way to bet on Formula 1 odds is by simply picking the winner of a particular race. Other popular F1 betting options include which car/constructor will win and whether or not a particular race car driver will end up on the podium with a Top-3 finish.

F1 race odds usually look like this:

  • Sergio Perez +1,400

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $1,400 if Perez wins that particular race. If one driver is especially dominant, you might see a minus sign (-) ahead of that driver's odds like this:

  • Max Verstappen -120

This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on Verstappen winning the race.
