Roughriders vs Stampeders Predictions, Odds, and Picks Week 19: Barreling to Points

As we approach the end of the CFL regular season, both teams are clinging to life in the playoff picture. While our CFL betting picks aren't predicting a winner, they are expecting this game to be a track meet at McMahon Stadium.

The Calgary Stampeders host the Saskatchewan Roughriders tonight in Week 19 of CFL betting action. The Riders are in a downward spiral and head coach Craig Dickenson's job could hang in the balance, but at least they clinch a playoff spot with a win.

Meanwhile, the Stamps are in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since 2004 but can stave off elimination with a victory under Craig's brother Dave. CFL betting odds have the Stamps booked as 3.5-point favorites with the Over/Under at 47.5. Here are my best free CFL picks and predictions for Roughriders vs. Stampeders on Friday, October 13.

Roughriders vs Stampeders picks and predictions

Betting trends always need to be looked at with a certain degree of skepticism. After all, oddsmakers typically adjust to changes in performance and regression eventually sets in. However, those numbers can take a while to get adjusted for a fringe sport like the CFL, and betting on Over in Saskatchewan Roughriders games has been a gold mine since the start of August.

The Over has cashed in nine consecutive games for Saskatchewan thanks in large part to the league's worst stop unit. The Riders are allowing a CFL-worst 7.02 yards per play and 31 points per game with that number soaring to 34.9 ppg over their last 10 contests.

To be fair, trends for the Calgary Stampeders run in the opposite direction with the Under going 6-2-1 in their last nine games. However, when these teams matched up earlier this season we saw a couple of shootouts with the Riders winning 29-26 in Week 3 before losing 33-31 in Week 6.

The Stampeders haven't been putting up many points in recent weeks but they've done a decent job of moving the ball. Quarterback Jake Maier has been inconsistent but he's third in the league with 3,827 passing yards and has shown the ability to light up subpar defensive units.

On the other side of the ball, the Stamps haven't been as awful as the Riders but they haven't been great either. They are allowing 26.7 ppg with that number ticking up to 28.7 ppg over their last seven games. They've been especially bad against the run allowing a league-high 5.9 yards per carry.

The Riders have been inconsistent on offense but they have been running the ball well lately with Jamal Morrow fresh off a 120-yard performance against the Tiger-Cats. Keep riding this Over trend until it dries up or books start setting the number too high.

My best bet: Over 47.5 (-110 at Bet99)

Roughriders vs Stampeders spread and Over/Under analysis

The line for this game opened with the Stampeders at -3 and the O/U at 47.5. The line has ticked up to -3.5 and the total is starting to move up to 48.5 at certain books.

The Riders are in the midst of a five-game losing streak where they've covered the spread just once. They were hammered 38-13 by the Ticats at Mosaic last week and it seems like Dickenson has lost the locker room.

That said, the Stampeders haven't really been much better having gone just 1-6 SU in their last seven games. The Stamps are 4-3 ATS during that span and they've had a week to prepare for this matchup since they had a bye in Week 18.
