Ultimately, Teirab explained, the social services system in Minnesota was set up in a way where it was designed to fail.
The fraudsters, largely but not exclusively consisting of the city’s Somali population, coordinated casually as they discovered how effortless government reimbursement could be, Teirab explained.
"These people were chatting with each other, and figured out, ‘Hey, I can get this free money,’" Teirab said, while explaining that the fraudsters and over 70 people facing indictment were the main perpetrators but that government officials also deserve blame.
"Tim Walz was responsible for putting into place the commissioners of the different departments who are allowing all this money to go out, and then you had Keith Ellison, who not only should have done something about stopping the fraud once he had a sense that things were happening, he should have started to investigate it. He now tries to say that he was working hand in hand with the federal government… absolutely false, lying about what he did, what he knew and when he knew it," Teirab said.
Walz’s office, in a statement to Fox News Digital this week, said the governor "views addressing fraud as a top priority" and touted his work over the last three years making "systematic changes to state government" to stop it, including hiring investigators, auditors and law enforcement.

"On the Democrat side, they're trying to deflect and say it's not a big deal, or we were actually working with you the whole time, and we're taking this very, very seriously," Teirab said. "And it's absolute hogwash."
"Tim Walz didn't do enough, Keith Ellison didn't do enough, and Ilhan Omar didn't do enough either, because she for sure knew what was going on. She was actually in one of the government’s exhibits, I believe, in one of the trials," Teirab continued. "She had one of her political victory parties at one of the main restaurants at the heart of the Feeding Our Future scandal in 2018. It's just ridiculous, and hopefully we should all come together and say this kind of fraud shouldn't happen."

Please review my words before you tell me what my words were. I asked what precisely bothered you or anyone, read above what I said before speaking inaccurately. I asked is it the fraud is it the color is it nationality is it partisan what is it exactly?
I do the opposite of what you just claimed, I do not concern with color or location or religion or politics but I know MANY here do focus on the wrong things to make a political partisan point.

Next they are going to tell us Cancer research donations is and has been scam
Could you imagine how deep this could be on so many different levels...I am completely amazed that our US government was taken advantage of with weak systems in place
How you like our government

I dont really care about who the politician is or the voting results of a state or city to form a conclusion. It is so much more simple than all this partisan stuff. The core bottom line fact is that the government is inefficient, ill equipped, technologically behind the curve and not at all prepared for dealing with fraud in any time frame but for sure in real time.
Want to know why that is? You have idiots like Musk who think government workers are lazy and we have too many of them so lets fire them all when the exact opposite is true. I do not think the government is up to date or equipped for remotely being in front of technology and schemes that fraudsters use to take advantage of any situation. That is why above I mentioned other examples of fraud, this isnt the first it is not even close to the worst and it wont be the last. We have fraud in every possible situation where the government is involved and that goes to every single instance including income tax, disability, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, stimmy benefits and checks, mortgages, financial governance you can go on and on and on.
So I have absolutely no reason and see no value in this partisan nonsense, you want to make it partisan I want to make things better for society not blame Walz or some political party. Walz is not personally equipped to make Minny more skilled to detect and stop fraud than Trump or that dope Tubberville or the clowns down here or anywhere.
Why focus on partisan divide instead of working towards improvement and bringing society together?

In this particular case, it was dem leadership in Minnesota that allowed it all to happen.....& are now trying to deflect from it. Did you read what this US Atty. said? There's one idiot in Congress trying to impeach Trump but doesn't say a damn thing about removing omar from her seat.

the social services system in Minnesota was set up in a way where it was designed to fail.
I think he is correct that this is a bigger factor than it seems.
Per capita, on the social services Minnesota is in the top 15 or so. Not up at the top like Massachusetts, New York, California, Oregon, Kentucky, etc.
Their fraud has not been really out of whack. Their Medicaid fraud, for example, was somewhere around 20th.
The issue is that they were not experiencing fraud at the levels as other states before.
But now there has been an influx of folks that are more willing, or apt, or susceptible to commit fraud.
So, now they have to develop a better system to crack down on it like some of the top states have had to do in the past.
Tacitly, or otherwise, acknowledging that it had been going on and not being able to stop it before it got so out of hand is not a good look for them.

Of course. I am not disagreeing about that at all.
I was just saying when you have a system that is not as used to fraud or alert to the possibility, as other states have been, then you are much more likely to be caught flatfooted and not be prepared to handle it.
Ignoring it and hoping it will go away and not come out in the open was not the correct way to handle it for sure.
So, yes, the 'system' is not the only problem. I was just pointing out that the guy is correct that their system was set up to be taken advantage of because they have not been used to seeing extreme fraud.
In certain situations folks tend to gravitate to areas where they can 'take' advantage of the system one way or the other.
But when the state is the one that brings them in they are not fully aware that there are folks that have this type of mindset and will do this on a massive scale.
In a sense, it is a case of unintended 'bad' consequences from a 'good' intended action.

On Nov. 7, 2016, Feeding Our Future (FOF), the organization that, according to the DOJ, was the "mastermind" behind the largest share of the fraud, was launched.
Though the Minnesota Department of Education initially denied FOF’s application to be a sponsor in the state’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), the agency ultimately approved the nonprofit on appeal in 2017, according to the Minnesota Legislative Auditor.
In August 2018, FOF started claiming CACFP meals; initially claiming about 13,000 meals/snacks that month. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) conducted its only administrative review of FOF this same year. According to the Office of the Minnesota Legislative Auditor, the review resulted in "serious findings that required follow-up, but MDE never conducted a follow-up review."
Through participation in the Federal Child Nutrition program, FOF received $3.4 million in 2019.
By April 2021, FOF claims had grown to the point that it claimed around $32 million in reimbursements for 12 million meals and snacks for a single month. In total, FOF opened over 250 Federal Child Nutrition Program sites throughout the state of Minnesota, and in doing so, went from receiving and disbursing approximately $3.4 million in federal funds in 2019 to nearly $200 million in 2021, according to the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota.
One example of a restaurant involved in FOF’s scheme is Salim Said, who owned Safari Restaurant and who has been found guilty on 21 counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy, bribery and money laundering. By July 2020, Said was claiming his restaurant was feeding 5,000 children per day, seven days a week. He claimed to have served over 3.9 million meals to children from his food site between April 2020 and November 2021 and to have provided more than 2.2 million meals to other food sites involved in FOF’s scheme.

In late 2020, the Minnesota Department of Education began scrutinizing the unlikely exponential growth of FOF. However, FOF sued, arguing discriminationbased on race, national origin and religion, and alleged that the state was unfairly delaying approvals.
A state court ordered MDE to act promptly on unresolved meal-site applications from FOF. The agency sent FOF a "serious deficiency" letter in March 2021 and moved to suspend payments. However, in June 2021, the court held MDE in contempt for failing to process FOF’s site applications "reasonably promptly." According to OLA, this lawsuit had a chilling effect on MDE acting on its concerns.
In early 2021, the FBI alerted the Minnesota Department of Education to allegations of kickbacks, fabricated invoices and fake meal counts tied to FOF-sponsored sites. On January 20, 2022, federal agents executed search warrants at the nonprofit’s offices and associated vendors, uncovering evidence of shell companies, falsified records and widespread misuse of federal child-nutrition funds. That operation marked the first public confirmation of a criminal probe, and in September 2022, prosecutors announced sweeping indictments, revealing what they called a $250 million scheme built on nonexistent meals and fraudulent billing.
Federal prosecutors say fraudsters further exploited Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program by recruiting individuals and billing Medicaid for housing-support services that were never provided. The program, launched by Minnesota in 2020, saw its costs surge from a projected $2.6 million a year to more than $100 million by 2024. Investigators allege that provider groups created sham service plans, inflated or fabricated support hours, and, in some cases, used "ghost clients" to maximize reimbursements. The scheme unraveled when analysts and whistleblowers flagged impossible growth trends, prompting state payment suspensions and a federal probe that resulted in the first wave of indictments in September 2025.

Criminals and people who are willing to commit crimes against our government are smarter than our government.....the fact that we are so loose with money and give it out to anyone and everyone without really checking that its rightfully due to that person is amazing and incompetent....and we continue to allow these systems to remain in place while knowing and accepting that fraud is prevalent...and we are talking about high dollar value programs....shut down the programs at once and revamp them with measures in place that vet every dollar in a scrutinized way....
I also know first hand of fraud out here in California called CalWorks that gives Medi-Cal and cash...I know a worker there that sees the fraud taking place with their clients on a daily basis and the Supervisors and Managers turn the other cheek....people that don't even live in the State are obtaining thee benefits...Federal government funds more than half of the cost while the rest comes from a general tax fund from California....it's as corrupt as all get up....the person I know has worked there 13 years so they know a little about it...about a 7-8 billion dollars annually are dished out through this corrupt program and it doesn't cost any of the nearly million people who are on it a dime....free healthcare and cash every month all on Federal government and taxpayer dime...
Ya, let's just keep dishing out to these loose organizations...gimmie a break...

The government does not have a top skilled audit framework on any level so that is local state or national. It is not all that difficult to defraud the government because there are weak if any systems of checks and balances let alone extensive comprehensive audit and fraud investigation programs in place.
Do you want low taxes and a skeleton governmental system running on Windows 2000 or do you want to pay current market rates for the technology and manpower that could make a small dent into the black hole of governmental fraud?
My local government seems quite progressive and the city council are professionals with experience and dedication but they get ripped off all the time and it has zero to do with what party they belong to or how snazzy they dress or if they can go on tv and make a media sound bite. The real engine behind fraud prevention and prosecution is not the gov or the head of a council it is the average guy making 50k a year who has to audit and investigate every single participant in any government program, those are the people Musk was targeting to cut and get rid of the little guy who works hard and might be under skilled and lacking the technology to make a meaningful impact but those people are the ones we need more of if you REALLY want to stop fraud.
Its easy to say Walz and the DEMS are to blame then you wonder why fraud never ends its because we act like zombie sheep not really seeking to make things better just seeking to blame a political party or individual.

some will never realize and understand what you wrote. Govt fraud is such a tough thing to try and control and its not right to blame any party for it.
We have a President who right now is blatantly committing all kinds of fraud against the American people and one side wont even talk about it

@ABooksNightmare In this particular case, it was dem leadership in Minnesota that allowed it all to happen.....& are now trying to deflect from it. Did you read what this US Atty. said? There's one idiot in Congress trying to impeach Trump but doesn't say a damn thing about removing omar from her seat.
Please just tell all of us, why you never post on this forum, when republicans are involved in bad stuff like fraud.
Oh that right theres nothing to post because republicans and magas are the most honest people in the world.

Not surprised by your comment. This is what loyal trump magas do, always distracting and deflecting.
I will make it simple, so you cant distract.
Why do you or your fellow magas every make posts saying how out raged you are when republicans are committing crimes and fraud. Man there was a lot of fraud during covid with republicans getting huge checks from the govt, but not one damn peep from the magas. Republicans and magas have been involved in so many criminal acts, yet you all stay quiet. Thats okay cause magas are all good little sheep that follow their career criminal con artist.
My hope is that any person that lines themselves up as a maga, gets it stuck up their butt by trump.
Same tired act from magas. DEMOCRATS BAD, MAGAS GOOD. DEMOCRATS COMMIT CRIMES, RIG ELECTIONS, FRAUD ETC ETC, MAGAS DONT DO ANY OF THAT STUFF.
Just remember what i said, something that will never come out of a maga mouth.
ALL FRAUD IS BAD, DOESNT MATTER WHAT PARTY THEY BELONG TO, OR WHAT COLOR THEIR SKIN IS, ITS ALL BAD.

@cd329 I'm not surprised by your comments either. One doesn't need to read much in this forum to find out what libs are all about.
So educate me on that reply since you made it. What do you mean about what libs are all about? His reply is that fraud is non-partisan and why not focus on the actual issue versus deflect?
What exactly was LIB in his reply that would give you a reply as you made (and pretty much only make)? Why are you so completely unable to discuss the real issue and problem, you are so partisan focused that it means you really add no value towards discussion on topics and content.
