Best WNBA Player Props Today: Connecticut Contains Clark

Caitlin Clark was forced into 10 turnovers and held to just three assists when the Fever played the Sun in the season opener. Those squads are facing off again tonight, but our WNBA picks don't expect the No. 1 overall pick to have better luck.

The 2024 WNBA season is in full swing and we get two more absorbing matchups tonight, including another primetime slot for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

The Fever, still searching for their first win of the season, have been big business for WNBA props, and there are plenty to choose from as they welcome the Connecticut Sun. Likewise, the star-studded New York Liberty will have some popular WNBA picks against the Seattle Storm.

Today's best WNBA player props bets

Prop bet #1: Jewell Lloyd Over 23.5 points

It doesn’t get much tougher than a trip to face the New York Liberty for the second game of a back-to-back set, and that spells trouble for the Seattle Storm.

Make no mistake, the Storm are going to need Jewell Loyd to carry the offense tonight, with Nneka Ogwumike sidelined by an ankle injury and Ezi Magbegor locked in on guarding Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones.

That leads me to the Over here. This is primarily a volume play, with Loyd jacking up at least 19 shots in all three games so far. The efficiency hasn’t been there — she’s shooting just 22% — but her track record as the No.1 scoring option suggests a bounceback performance is just around the corner.

Loyd, in her 10th season with the Storm, logged 37 minutes last night and could be pushing towards a full 40 minutes at Barclays Center to keep Seattle in the contest. She averaged a career-high 24.7 ppg in 2023 and I like her chances of hitting a similar number against the Liberty tonight.

Jewell Loyd prop: Over 23.5 points (-110 at bet365)

Prop bet #2: Alyssa Thomas Over 9.5 rebounds

If anyone is going to stand in the way of another Aces-Liberty Finals showdown, the Connecticut Sun are still the likeliest threat and it’s been business as usual from the wily Sun in their 2-0 start.

That’s partly because Alyssa Thomas has wasted no time bringing the do-it-all excellence that made her an MVP candidate last season, where she averaged a fraction under 10 rebounds per game.

The Over on the Thomas rebounds prop stands out to me here as Connecticut travel to Indiana. She’s posted double-digit boards in both games this season and finished with a triple-double against the Fever in the season opener.

Facing an Indiana team that’s been outrebounded in two of its three outings so far, I expect Thomas and the Sun to own the paint, and her battle against Aliyah Boston is one of today’s must-see matchups.

Thomas had three offensive rebounds in Friday’s win over the Washington Mystics and her ability to clean the glass on both ends of the court makes this Over even more appealing.

Alyssa Thomas prop: Over 9.5 rebounds (-120 at bet365)

Prop bet #3: Caitlin Clark Under 5.5 assists

A bumpy first week in the WNBA isn’t going to knock Caitlin Clark off track – nor deter bettors from hammering the Caitlin Clark odds every time she steps onto the floor. If anything, there should be more hype and optimism after Clark had her best game as a pro on Saturday, finishing with 22 points and eight assists against the Liberty.

However, a swarming Sun defense is a different proposition, and I’m fading the Clark assist prop tonight in a tough spot for Indiana. The Sun had the stingiest defense in the league last year, allowing just 79 points per game.

Connecticut held Clark to just three assists in the 2024 season opener while forcing the rookie into 10 turnovers, and it'll be interesting to see what the Fever guard learned from that experience.

Sun guard DiJonai Carrington was a constant menace in that prior meeting, and I expect a similar game plan tonight, with nothing easy for Clark, who's still adjusting to the speed of WNBA action.

The season opener ended as a 92-71 victory for Connecticut and the potential for a similarly lopsided scoreline is another factor in picking Clark to fall short on this assists prop.

Caitlin Clark prop: Under 5.5 assists (+110 at bet365)
