UFC 299 Holland vs Page Odds, Picks, and Predictions: Holland Hands Page the L

Michael Page has been dominating in Bellator for many years and will now make his UFC debut. With that said, our UFC picks don't expect him to be handed a victory as Kevin Holland will give him all he's got come Saturday.

Kevin Holland welcomes Bellator legend Michael Page to the UFC in a potentially explosive welterweight clash on the UFC 299 undercard, taking place tonight, March 9, at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

Many expect this to be the fight of the night, and although Page comes with the hype train behind him, this could be Holland’s night to score a major win. UFC odds have Holland as a -135 favorite, and Page is a +110 underdog.

Holland vs Page picks

Fight prediction: Holland ML

When it comes to Kevin Holland, there's no denying his impressive skill set. A formidable striker with a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Holland boasts excellent finishing abilities that make him an exciting and action-packed fighter inside the octagon.

While he excels in individual aspects, the inability to round out his skill set has prevented him from getting where he should be, which is in the orbit of a title shot. Instead, he’s on this card as a potential fall guy for Michael Page’s UFC debut.

Page, a Bellator legend, has been a striking dynamo since his debut with the organization in 2013. He is known to throw all kinds of crazy strikes, and his unpredictable technique has resulted in some incredible knockouts over the years. However, at 36 years old, Page is already showing that he’s slowing down — noticeable in his performances over his last few fights with the promotion. If he was already starting to lose a step in Bellator, then he’s in for a potentially rough landing in the UFC.

Holland is still in his prime and maybe two or three good performances away from being in title contention. While Page got away with the crazy strikes in Bellator, he’ll find that those tricks won’t work against Holland, who has excellent power and can take him to the ground if he isn’t careful. If the idea was to ease Page into the promotion, they picked the wrong guy to match him up with.

Then again, Holland tends to hit a mental wall in these kinds of fights which can raise his profile. Whether it was letting a vulnerable Stephen Thompson get off the mat in their fight, or the bizarre failed takedown attempts against Jack Della Maddalena in his previous defeat, Holland can sometimes be his worst enemy.

However, this is the night that Holland puts it together. He’s going to have too much for Page to handle, allowing him to score a huge win in a potentially great fight.

Prediction: Holland moneyline (-140 at Bet99)

Fight best bet: Fight to go the distance

Even during his prime, I can’t recall Page facing a fighter as versatile as Holland. Both fighters did settle at welterweight after a run one division higher, but Holland has mixed it up with some of the best fighters in the world, whereas Page has been the biggest fish in a small pond.

Page is a technical striker with unique attacks, though I see him fighting more conventionally once he gets a taste of Holland’s speed and power. Should Page start to control the striking tempo, Holland could resort to grappling and take him down. We’re starting to see Page slow down, and now, he’s facing off against an opponent who physically has him outgunned.

I don’t see a stoppage for either fighter in this three-round fight. Both fighters have only been stopped once in their careers, with Page suffering a legitimate knockout to Douglas Lima and Holland having his corner step in in the fourth round against Thompson.

My confidence level for Holland to win isn’t where it should be to commit to a specific outcome in his favor, so my best bet for the fight is that Holland and Page go the full distance.

Pick: Fight to go the distance (-175 at Bet99)

Holland vs Page betting preview

Holland is hoping to avoid a second straight loss that will drop him to 2-4 over his last six fights. The former middleweight and welterweight standout suffered a split-decision loss to Della Maddalana in his last fight, a critical defeat that has relegated him to the mid card. Since dropping to welterweight, all of Holland’s wins have been finishes.

After a decade of dazzling the crowds in Bellator, “Venom” makes his UFC debut as he inches toward the end of his career. The equally explosive Page often leaves his opponents in a crumbled heap, though he may find that the competition in the UFC is sterner than he’s faced before.

Holland and Page are both rangy fighters, but Holland tends to do better on the inside and can work in takedowns. There’s no doubt that Page is the better technician, though he’ll have to contend with Holland’s athleticism and power.
