Connor McDavid scored two goals and had an assist and backup goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 27 shots, including a penalty shot for his first shutout of the season, as the Edmonton Oilers extended their franchise-record win streak to 15 games with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night.

The 15-game win streak tied the New York Islanders (1981-82) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (2012-13) for the third longest in NHL history. Pittsburgh holds the record with a 17-gamer in 1992-93 while Columbus had a 16-game win streak in 2016-17.

It was the fifth career shutout and first since 2018 for Pickard, who was making his 100th career NHL start. The Oilers have allowed two goals or fewer in 13 consecutive games.

McDavid had his 53rd career multi-goal game while extending his home point streak to 17 games. Leon Draisaitl finished with three assists and Zach Hyman also scored for Edmonton.

Petr Mrazek finished with 31 saves for Chicago, which tied its franchise record with its 19th straight road loss set in 2004. The Blackhawks' last road win came on Nov. 9 at Tampa Bay, 5-3.

Edmonton took a 1-0 lead at the 1:37 mark of the second period when McDavid took a pass at the edge of the left circle and backhanded a shot into an open net.

Chicago had a chance to tie it at the 18:24 mark of the period when MacKenzie Entwistle was awarded a penalty shot after Oilers defenseman Vincent Desharnais was called for holding him on a breakaway. Entwistle circled in from the left side and attempted a snap shot from the edge of the circle that Pickard blocked with his pad.

The Oilers extended the lead to 2-0 at the 6:34 mark of the third period when Hyman tapped in McDavid's crossing pass at the end of an odd-man rush into the right side of the net for Hyman's team-leading 29th goal.

McDavid sealed the win with an empty-netter with 1:15 remaining.
