Aaron Ekblad scored 16 seconds into overtime as the Florida Panthers completed a rally to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Wednesday night in Raleigh, N.C.

It was the second goal in barely more than a minute of playing time for the Panthers, who tied the game on Sam Reinhart's tally with 48.3 seconds left in regulation. That came after the Panthers went with an extra skater.

Aleksander Barkov also scored for Florida. Sergei Bobrovsky made 16 saves for the Panthers, who played in their first game since the All-Star break.

Ekblad's goal was his 11th of the season. He also assisted on Florida's first goal. Jonathan Huberdeau, who had two assists, and Barkov assisted on the winning goal.

Teuvo Teravainen and Tony DeAngelo scored for the Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen racked up 28 saves.

The Hurricanes were in their fifth game since the break, but just their first at home in that stretch after going 1-2-1 upon returning to action.

This was a matchup of two of the three teams with an Eastern Conference-leading 32 wins entering the night.

Florida was 0-for-5 on power plays, and Carolina was 0-for-4.

Carolina produced just two shots on goal in the third period compared to Florida's 11.

DeAngelo's go-ahead goal came with 16:47 to play in the third period. For his ninth goal of the season, he was set up by the work of teammates Jordan Staal and Nino Niederreiter behind the net. DeAngelo's shot bounced off Florida defenseman Gustav Forsling.

Florida had several third-period chances, including a Brandon Montour shot that hit the post.

Both teams squandered a pair of first-period opportunities on power plays before Teravainen converted for his 12th goal of the season with 46 seconds left.

It was the first goal for Teravainen in nearly a month, though he missed five games during that span.

Barkov's 22nd goal of the season came 13:09 into the second period.

He nearly converted again before the end of the period during a short-handed opportunity.

Florida won both previous meetings this season with the Hurricanes, with one of those contests going to overtime.
