Seth Jarvis scored the tiebreaking goal near the midway point of the third period, and the Carolina Hurricanes won 2-1 at Anaheim on Thursday night, ending the Ducks' eight-game winning streak.

Carolina goalie Frederik Andersen, who began his NHL career with Anaheim, stopped 31 shots to improve to 6-1-0 on the road. The Ducks' John Gibson was equally as strong in making 29 saves.

However, Gibson's personal seven-game winning streak ended thanks to Jarvis. The rookie stayed with the play as the Hurricanes pressured the net, and he pushed the puck from behind the side of the net and off a sprawling Gibson, then over the line, with 10:26 left in regulation.

Jarvis, who failed to convert a penalty shot early in the third period, recorded his third goal in his eighth career contest.

Carolina has won three straight and 13 of its first 15 games on the season.

Troy Terry extended his point streak to 16 games by scoring the lone goal for Anaheim, which was amid its longest winning streak since 2015-16. The loss also ended the Ducks' six-game home winning run and their 10-game point streak.

Carolina struck first, just 4:44 into the game. Off a cross-ice pass from Martin Necas, Ethan Bear caught the puck and beat Gibson on the short side.

Anaheim tied the game with just under nine minutes to play in the opening period. On the rush, Adam Henrique's shot was stopped by Andersen, but Terry was there to bury the rebound and secure the third-longest point streak in Ducks history.

The game stayed tied at 1-1 through the second period, when the goalies took center stage. The teams combined for 21 shots in the middle frame, but Andersen and Gibson were up to the task.

Gibson carried over that strong play over to the third period, when he rather easily stopped a penalty-shot attempt from Jarvis at 1:20. Jarvis, however, would make up for coming up short on the penalty shot by scoring the tiebreaker.
