Zack MacEwen scored with 9:40 remaining as the Philadelphia Flyers rallied in the third period to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Friday night in Raleigh, N.C.

Carter Hart made 39 saves for the Flyers, who have alternated wins and losses in their last seven games. He stopped Carolina's Andrei Svechnikov in the final minute with one of his late-game glove saves.

Joel Farabee also scored in the third period for Philadelphia, which had been shut out two nights earlier by Toronto.

MacEwen's goal was assisted by Justin Braun and former Carolina player Patrick Brown, who was in just his fifth game of the season. Braun flipped a shot from the right point and it went off MacEwen, who hadn't scored in his first nine games of the campaign.

Steven Lorentz scored in the second period for the Hurricanes.

Frederik Andersen made 26 saves for Carolina, which lost for just the second time in 12 games.

Lorentz batted in a rebound baseball-style goal in the second period for his second tally of the season, breaking a scoreless tie. Jesper Fast and Jordan Staal were credited with assists on the play.

Philadelphia didn't score until Farabee's fourth of the season that came 4:06 into the third period. Scott Laughton and Rasmus Ristolainen notched assists on the goal.

The Flyers recorded 10 of the first 11 shots on goal in the third period.

The Flyers had a good chance in the first period, but failed to convert on more than a minute of a 5-on-3 power play.

Hurricanes center Martin Necas missed his first game of the season because of illness. That resulted in Josh Leivo making his Carolina debut.

Carolina was playing one of only three home games the team has in November.
