Charlie Coyle scored the lone goal in the shootout against goalie Spencer Knight as the Boston Bruins beat the visiting Florida Panthers 3-2 on Saturday night to end Florida's unbeaten start.

Coyle deked and tucked the puck in on the Bruins' second shootout attempt against Knight in his first NHL shootout. Owen Tippett tried to score five-hole on the other end but was stopped by Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark.

Coyle also scored his third goal of the season in regulation and Charlie McAvoy netted his first for the Bruins. Ullmark recorded 33 saves for the Bruins, who snapped their two-game losing streak.

Anthony Duclair scored for a team-leading sixth time, Aleksander Barkov scored his fifth of the season and Knight made 31 saves for the Panthers.

Florida fell short of becoming the fourth team in NHL history to start a season with nine straight victories. Only the Montreal Canadiens (9-0-0 in 2015-16), Buffalo Sabres (10-0-0 in 2006-07) and Toronto Maple Leafs (10-0-0 in 1993-94) have opened a season with at least nine consecutive wins.

Barkov put Florida ahead 2-1 six seconds into a power play at 7:49 of the third. Barkov won a face-off and skated over to the right circle, where he took a cross-ice pass from Jonathan Huberdeau and fired a one-timer past Ullmark.

McAvoy tied it at 2-2 for Boston nearly six minutes later, scoring into an open net on a wrister from the low slot off a circle-to-circle feed from Brad Marchand.

Florida tied the game at 1-1 just 47 seconds into the second period. Duclair deked through the right circle and split two defenders before elevating the puck past Ullmark in the slot.

Coyle's wrister from the left face-off circle beat Knight high glove-side to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 19:18 of the opening period.

On Wednesday, the Panthers beat the Bruins 4-1 at home to improve to 7-0-0 before earning a 3-2 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday. The Bruins and Panthers do not meet again until an April 26 tilt in Boston.
