We have the first of this weekend’s four FA Cup quarterfinals with Wolves vs Coventry City on Saturday. Wolves are soccer odds favorites given their Premier League status but Coventry aren’t going to be an easy team to beat having won their last two games in the Championship while sitting just outside the playoffs.

Wolves vs Coventry picks and predictions

It’s that time of year again with the FA Cup quarterfinals taking place with a spot in the semifinals at Wembley Stadium at stake. The first of the four games takes place early on Saturday with Wolves vs. Coventry City.

A league splits the two Midlands clubs with the local rivals having not met in a number of years. Wolves are an established Premier League club these days and sit ninth in the table after an impressive season and three wins in their past four games. Coventry are eighth in the Championship and chasing a playoff spot, having narrowly missed out on a spot in the Premier League last season when they were beaten by Luton in the playoff final.

Given how well Wolves are doing in the Premier League it’s clear that they’re the better team. However, they’re missing a number of players, which makes this very interesting.

The two key losses are Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan, the club’s two leading forwards, who have combined for 19 of their 42 Premier League goals so far this season. Without either man it’s going to leave a vacuum, but it’s informing our choice of best bet for Wolves vs. Coventry, which is for Wolves to win and Under 2.5 goals at a price of +309.

Any side would struggle for goals with their two leading strikers missing, so we can expect to see Wolves looking less dangerous in attack, especially with Pedro Neto — one of their better attacking players — also questionable to play. That said, we need to remember that this Wolves team beat Fulham last time out without either of their star strikers and they will pick up the victory here regardless of the injuries in the front line.

Gary O’Neill has done a brilliant job with Wolves this season. With their financial problems it was expected that Wolves would struggle this year and would skirt relegation, but here we are in March and the club are in the top half of the Premier League table. They’ve done it through being hard to beat at home and playing intelligent soccer.

The lack of Wolves best two striking options is also going to ensure that this isn’t a high scoring game, and we’re also taking Under 2.5 goals in addition to Wolves on the moneyline. We can look at look back at both team’s total goals numbers throughout the season but it’s hard to extrapolate anything from the data when both Cunha and Hee-Chan are out.

For Coventry’s part, they are having another strong season and come into this game on the back of two wins. They’ve scored 59 goals in 37 games, and conceding just 43 goals in the same amount of games is a genuine achievement. They’ve given up fewer goals than four of the seven teams above them in the table. That strong defensive record is just another reason that Wolves will fail to score many on Saturday, even though they should have the nous and experience to get the win on home soil.

My best bet: Wolves and Under 2.5 (+309 at TonyBet)

Wolves vs Coventry same-game parlay

Wolves and Under 2.5

Both teams to receive cards

Pablo Sarabia Over 0.5 shots

Here’s our +450 same-game parlay for Wolves vs Coventry on Saturday that builds on our best bet for the game.

You already know that we’re betting on Wolves to win and Under 2.5 goals in the game, but in addition to that we’re also wagering on both teams receiving cards. Wolves have had 71 cards in 28 Premier League games, with Coventry on 73 cards in 37 Championship games. In the FA Cup we see Coventry averaging one per game with four cards in four games and Wolves on seven cards in four games. We should see both of these Midlands rivals get booked here.

To wrap up our SGP we’re also going to wager on Wolves’ Pablo Sarabia to take a shot. The 31-year has played the bulk of the team’s games this season and generally features when fit. With Cunha and Hee-Chan out plus Neto being questionable, it means we should see more of the Spaniard. He’s averaged 1.7 shots in the Premier League this season and is likely to take on a leading role as a goal-getter on Saturday.

Wolves vs Coventry side and Over/Under analysis

We’ve gone into the reasons why Wolves should win this game above but let’s talk about the odds available for betting on the moneyline.

You can grab Wolves at -148, which feels very generous, even with injuries. This is a team who have won their last three games at home, play a league above Coventry, and are having an impressive season. They overcame West Brom earlier in this year’s FA Cup, in another game full of local rivalry. It’s generally advisable to not play odds around -148 but it’s hard to argue against that price being good value. You can get the draw at +295 or the away win at +420, neither of which appeal.

You can back Over 2.5 goals at -122 or Under 2.5 goals at +104, and I’d take the Under all day.

You can talk about the numbers but it’s hard to take anything from that when Wolves are so decimated in attacking positions. They have had Over 2.5 goals in 64.3% of Premier League games at Molineux but this isn’t a full Wolves team, so let’s not read anything into those numbers.

The Under has landed in 43.2% of Coventry’s games this season but they’re up against a better defense than any they’ve faced all season, which again makes it hard to read into those numbers.
