The Miami Hurricanes and Clemson Tigers are set to clash in a key ACC battle on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers are still perched atop the ACC standings, holding a slim half-game lead over Virginia and a one-game lead over Pittsburgh heading into Saturday.

Clemson is also two games clear of Miami in the standings, so this is a hugely important road game for the Hurricanes if they want to keep their ACC title hopes alive.

This is the only regular-season meeting scheduled between these two schools, although a meeting in the conference tournament could certainly be a possibility down the road.

Will the Hurricanes grab a win and reel the Tigers closer, or can Clemson prevail and earn a little breathing room? We’ll discuss in our college basketball picks and predictions for Miami vs. Clemson on February 4.

Miami vs Clemson best odds

Miami vs Clemson picks and predictions

Head coach Jim Larranaga has the Miami Hurricanes playing good basketball overall, but Miami has struggled a little bit on the road lately.

The Hurricanes lost in its most recent road trip to Pittsburgh — falling 71-68 as a 1.5-point favorite on January 28 — and they have dropped four straight games on the road outside of the Sunshine State.

The Clemson Tigers closed out the month of January with a surprising 62-54 loss at Boston College, but the Tigers have won all 12 of their games at Littlejohn Arena this season — including victories over the likes of Duke and NC State.

Miami has won the past two meetings in this series and four of the last seven overall. However, these games are generally close, with each of the previous 10 decided by single digits, including a pair of one-point games and one overtime battle in the last eight.

While the Hurricanes have had some difficulty on the road recently, backing Miami on the money line is the best plan of attack for this game.

There is just something about seeing that paw that gets the Hurricanes fired up to play, and I like them to grab a key road win to jumble up the top of the ACC standings.

Miami vs Clemson spread analysis

We documented the Hurricanes' struggles at winning on the road, but Miami has still somehow managed an impressive 20-6 mark against the spread in the past 26 games away from home.

In addition, The U has posted a very solid 14-6-1 ATS mark in the past 21 games against teams with a winning overall record, while going 22-8 ATS in the past 30 on the road against teams with a winning record at home.

Miami has used a solid combination of offense and decent 3-point shooting to overpower opponents. The only concern for the Hurricanes is on the defensive end as it yields 70.1 points per game, which is rather middle of the road.

The Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games at home, but the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the past seven in this series. The Hurricanes have covered each of the previous four matchups overall.

Clemson is good for 73.8 ppg but struggles defensively against the triple. If Miami can find its stroke from downtown early on, it will be able to get a much-needed road victory in what should be a very close contest.

Miami vs Clemson Over/Under analysis

The Hurricanes have been trending low lately, cashing the Under at a 6-1-1 clip in their last eight games on the road. The Under is also 5-1 in their past six on the road against teams with a winning home record.

For the Tigers, the Under is 4-1 in the last five games at Littlejohn Arena. Defensively, Clemson is pretty strong, yielding just 66.6 ppg while limiting the opposition to a 39.5% field-goal percentage.

Miami has allowed 70.1 ppg to rank just 201st overall in the nation, but it has been pretty decent when it comes to guarding against shots from downtown. The Hurricanes hold opponents to a 32.3% clip from beyond the 3-point line.

And while Clemson has hit an impressive 80.1% from the charity stripe, defense is what drives the train for the Tigers. Clemson allows teams to hit just 39.5% from the field, which ranks 20th in the country.

We should see plenty of defense in this key ACC battle, especially since Tigers' starting guard Brevin Galloway is questionable to play due to an abdominal injury.
