Yankees vs Twins betting preview

Starting pitchers

Jameson Taillon (6-1, 2.30 ERA): Taillon is coming off of an absurd start against the Los Angeles Angels, as the righty gave up just one run in eight innings of work. Taillon has now given up just two earned in his last 23 innings on the hill. He is really coming into his own in the Bronx, which isn’t all that surprising given the amount of talent he has always possessed. Taillon also happens to be 3-0 with a 2.28 ERA on the road this year.

Cole Sands RHP (0-1, 7.88 ERA): Sands made his MLB debut on May 1, and the righty has had some trouble in the big leagues thus far. He has allowed seven earned runs over only eight total innings, and he could be in for a really rough outing if he can’t settle his nerves against the Yankees. The good news for Minnesota is that the 24-year-old threw 91 pitches in his most recent outing, so he could throw five or so innings if he’s not off his game.

Yankees vs Twins picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

The Yankees have arguably been the best team in baseball all season, and they now get to face the Twins in a game in which they’ll have the better starter on the mound.

Taillon has been superb all season for New York, and he happens to be coming into this game off one of his best performances of the year. The righty faced a good Angels lineup and gave up one run in eight innings in that one. He has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 10 starts in 2022.

The Twins’ offense can be dangerous at times, but New York has to like its chances with the way Taillon is spinning it right now.

New York also has what it takes to put up a big number in this game. While the Yankees could definitely use another lefty bat or two to really take advantage of right-handed pitching, they have one of the best offenses in baseball.

That makes this a dangerous opponent for Sands, who has been lit up since starting up with the Twins on May 1. The Yankees are third in the league in weighted runs created plus against righties, and they’re also third in on-base plus slugging against them.

Not only should the Yankees win this game outright, but they’re also a worthy play on the run line.

Prediction: Yankees moneyline (-143 at BetRivers)

Over/Under analysis

Taillon has been awesome for New York this season, but it’d be somewhat surprising if the Twins don’t score a few runs on him in this game.

Minnesota just scored 20 runs in a three-game series against Toronto, which gives you an idea of how good the Twins offense can be.

The only issue for the Twins is that the Yankees offense is just a lot better, which is why it’s likely New York will win this game. That is, however, good news for anybody that is looking to bet the Over, as nine runs just seems well within reach in any game in which Sands is facing a good offense.

The Over is also 15-7-1 in New York’s last 23 games in which the team is coming off an off day, and it’s also 41-19-3 in the last 63 meetings between the Yankees and the Twins.

If that’s not enough for you, the Over is also 7-1 in the last eight games in which the Twins have faced a right-handed starter.

Prediction: Over 8.5 (-112 at BetRivers)

Best bet

The Yankees have scored at least five runs in four of their last six games, and they’re playing some great baseball once again. After a slow start to the year, New York is now sixth in the league in runs scored and that’s despite having only played 54 games at this point in the year.

Now, the Yankees face a Twins team that isn’t throwing one of its best starters to the mound, and they don’t have a great bullpen either.

This just seems like a game in which New York should score a lot of runs, making this the best bet on the board tonight.

Pick: Yankees team total Over 4.5 (-125 at bet365
