The Philadelphia Phillies host the Colorado Rockies at Citizens Bank Park for the second game of a three-game set after a walk-off win in extra innings on Monday night.

The Phillies are huge favorites on the MLB odds board despite some offensive struggles to begin the season. The Rockies have also had some struggles of their own. They’ve been outscored 12-4 during their current three-game losing streak.

Read on for our free MLB picks and Rockies vs. Phillies predictions on Tuesday, April 16.

Rockies vs Phillies prediction

My best bet
First-five Under 4.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis
It should be a decent pitcher’s duel on Tuesday night even though the names may not show it.

Philadelphia Phillies starter Ranger Suarez has allowed just five runs through 17 innings in his first three starts this season, including six shutout innings of two-hit ball last time out against the Pirates.

The Colorado Rockies are going with Austin Gomber on the mound, who's allowed just four runs in 10 innings across his last two starts after getting touched up for four runs to open the season.

Perhaps more importantly, neither of these teams has been swinging the bat all too well thus far. The Phillies are scoring 3.53 runs per game (fifth lowest) with the Rockies at 4.12 (11th fewest). That Colorado number comes down to 3.64 on the road, though, with Coors Field being a notorious hitter-friendly ballpark.

The one area where we could see some runs tonight is in the latter portion of the game. Neither team has a great bullpen this season. In fact, the Rockies have the third-highest bullpen ERA in the league (5.61) with the Phillies right below them at 5.01.

For that reason, we'll be sticking to a first five innings bet for tonight’s game. Both teams rank in the Bottom 10 in first five innings runs per game with the Rockies at 1.82 and Phillies at 1.88.

Furthermore, both teams are struggling offensively as the Phillies have scored four runs or fewer in four straight games and five of their last six contests, with the Rockies being held to three runs or fewer in five of their last six as well.

Rockies vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Rockies +1.5

Under 8.5

Austin Gomber 2+ walks allowed

The Phillies are off to a 9-8 start this season but four of those victories came by just one run, including two straight in walk-off fashion. They haven’t been able to pull away from teams and the Rockies should be able to keep it close tonight.

While we’re trusting Austin Gomber with our best bet, there’s also a good chance he issues a few free passes tonight. He’s allowed eight walks across 14 2/3 innings thus far, including 2+ in all three starts.
