Empire State mobile sportsbooks began April nearly the same way they ended March.
The New York Gaming Commission reported a handle of $456.97 million for the week ending April 7, a rise of 2.1% from the previous week.
Revenue increased slightly by 0.5% to reach $42.08 million, while the hold decreased from 9.2% at the end of March to 9% at the beginning of April.
Compared to the same week last year, the amount wagered is up 33.1% while revenue increased 250% year-over-year.
Numbers were aided by the record wagering on women’s sporting events during the NCAA tournament, as well as the men’s Final Four. In recent weeks, the number of bets placed on college basketball was four times higher than those placed on the Super Bowl.
Staying consistent
Consistency has also been the theme for the Empire State’s nine online sports betting operators for the last several months when it comes to the amount wagered. The week ending April 7 marked the 25th time in 26 weeks that the handle has gone over $400 million.
Following a Super Bowl week that only netted a combined $5 million in revenue, New York operators have combined to record eight consecutive weeks of profits of at least $31 million.
FanDuel remains on top
FanDuel made up over half of gross revenue for sports betting in New York, with $21.8 million in profits on a handle of $194.6 million and a hold of 11.2%.
Meanwhile, DraftKings accounted for about $13.1 million of revenue and had the second-highest handle behind FanDuel at $163.5 million.
Caesars finished third in handle with $41.8 million while BetMGM rounded out the top four at nearly $31.6 million. No sportsbook operator in the Empire State reported a loss for the week, and six of the nine posted holds 8% or higher.
