The 150th Kentucky Derby took place on Saturday, May 4 and produced a dramatic finish, with Mystik Dan emerging the winner by a nose.

Only 13 horses have ever won the Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes, but you can bet on Mystik Dan to be the 14th in the latest Triple Crown odds courtesy of bet365.

Mystik Dan's chances to win the Triple Crown

You can't win the Triple Crown if you don't participate in the Preakness, and that's the first hurdle Mystik Dan has to clear. Trainer Ken McPeek has not fully committed to entering his horse in the second leg of the Triple Crown just yet, citing a pervious attempt to race the son of Goldencents back in two weeks that resulted in an off-the-board effort late last year.

If Mystik Dan does go in the Preakness, he'll likely have to beat a two-headed monster trained by Bob Baffert in Arkansas Derby winner Muth and Santa Anita Derby runner-up Imagination. Muth was the Pool 2 favorite at 7-2 in the Preakness odds futures.

That said, these odds are rather large on Mystik Dan. For reference, any horse to win the Triple Crown was listed at just +650 ahead of the Kentucky Derby.

If 'Dan negotiates the Preakness and is healthy enough to compete in the Belmont Stakes, he'll only have to go 10 furlongs rather than 12 in the "Test of the Champion" due to the race being moved to Saratoga while Belmont is under construction.

What is the Triple Crown?

For those not familiar with U.S. horse racing, the Triple Crown is the top honor awarded each year and goes to the three-year-old Thoroughbred horse who wins each of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes.

The Triple Crown was first available to be won in 1875 but it wasn't until 1919 that it was first awarded as horse Sir Barton was able to win all three races.

The Triple Crown is usually awarded in June following the completion of the Belmont Stakes.
