Truly one of the greats. RIP, good sir. May God welcome you with open arms and ease the pain and grief of those you left behind. The world was a better place with you in it.

The GOAT
May he LIVE on in HEAVEN for ETERNITY, in the hearts of those who love him, and through his accomplishments both on and off the court .

Bill Russell was a Giant literally and figuratively. His contributions on the parquet floor including all of the accolades puts him squarely in the GOAT conversation but it’s a terrible shame that no one born after the 1980’s would have no clue about how dominant and great B Russ really was. But more importantly, his contributions off the court were equally impressive - and arguably more meaningful or significant - since B Russ broke racial barriers, empowered African Americans during a time in U.S. history where civil rights was practically non-existent. In short, B Russ was a transcendental individual both on and off the court who will always be an icon or legend till the end of time.
God bless you and RIP Mr. Bill Russell!

With Bill's passing comes a sad era of farewells, for in the NBA, of all the MVPs in the league, as far as I can remember, only two have not been alive so far. Three already...
I don't believe we will ever see a player with 11 rings and this is the greatest unbeaten record

Saw this tweet earlier today:
"Bill Russell played 21 winner-take-all games in his career (NBA, Olympics, NCAA Tournament). His teams went 21-0. 10 of those were NBA Game 7s, and in them, he played 488 of 495 minutes and averaged 29.3 rebounds."

I would say we are from the same neighborhood but he was born in the south and moved to west Oakland. He went to the high school I was suppose to go to but I went to the Tech house instead. My dad was still living in Boston himself and not moved to Oakland when he played for the Celtics. Many parallels to the man. Truly a great.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bill 3 times. In the 90.s there was a convention in Atlanta called the Super show. He would always be standing by a bench between D and E halls. Way before cell phones etc. I would just walk up to him and say hello and act like I did not know who he was. We would talk about the restaurant's in Atlanta and how the show itself seemed to be a huge success.
Watched people asking for autographs, Pictures etc. He would politely say thanks but no I do not sign or take pictures. We would than just both laugh and continue our conversation. A total class act and such a wonderful person to spend a little time with.

Russell was definitely one of the best of his generation and if championships is your measure for who the GOAT is then that would be him. Great man off the court as well.

Met him when I worked for the Heat and they hosted the 1990 ASG.
He was coaching the East Legends Team.
A real pleasure to talk with...he knew my friend's Father, John Thompson so we had a nice conversation about their playing days together .
Rest Easy Bill and John

RIP to the man who literally invented the shot block. He also was great for humanity as well. Wish I was born earlier so I could see more of what his play was like.
