For starters, if you don't like my pick, tell me why otherwise your opinion is useless. Simply telling me that Michigan will win does not help me understand WHY Michigan will win or cover.
Here are my thoughts about the game tonight. I believe that Michigan will want to run the ball on offense to control the clock and keep Penix off the field. I also believe that a big part of their gameplan will be to get pressure on Penix otherwise they know he will carve up their secondary. I think that Washington's defense is underrated, and they will be able to stop Michigan from running the ball and Washington's offensive line will do a great job protecting Penix in the pocket. I believe that Washington will get out to an early lead and thus Michigan will be forced to rely on JJ McCarthy's arm to pass the ball down the field. That will not end in a good outcome. Let me remind you that JJ McCarthy threw 3 interceptions in 13 pass attempts against Bowling Green, yes Bowling Green. Against Penn State the Michigan coaches barely let him throw the ball as he was held to 8 pass attempts in the game and did not throw a pass in the 2nd half. In the first play of the game against Alabama he almost threw a pick but the Alabama player stepped out of bounds. These are not plays that "the greatest quarterback in University of Michigan college football history", per Jim Harbaugh, should make. I do not believe that JJ McCarthy will be effective throwing the ball downfield against Washington's secondary, I also think he will throw and interception early in the game. I believe Washinton will make enough stops on defense against Michigan's running game.
Give me the team that played a tougher schedule per their strength of schedule. Give me the team that has the longest winning streak in the country at 21 wins. Give me the team with the much better QB, better receivers, and a better offensive line by the fact that they won the Joe Moore award for the best offensive line in the country.
I like WASHINGTON +5.5 and I also don't think you need the points, so I took WASHINGTON -3.5 at +260. I also took Dillon Johnson over 39.5 rushing yards as I see Washington running the ball to control the clock when they have a lead late in the game, I also took JaLYNN POLK over 53.5 receiving yards and JALEN McMILLAN over 59.5 receiving yards. My rational is that Michigan will key in on stopping Odunze meanwhile Polk and McMillan will get a lot of targets, they are ALL very solid receivers.
FINAL SCORE Prediction: WASHINGTON 34 MICHIGAN 24 lean to the over.
