You're really trying to tell me you didn't have units growing up on Frederick Douglass? On slavery? On Martin Luther King? On Brown v. Board? On the Civil Rights Movement?

Well shit Scal, there's your problem. There's wayyyy more local black drug dealers (lower on the drug food chain) than there are white wholesalers. You know how the pyramid structure in the drug game works. Your starting populations are vastly skewed.

But that's the point...the aggressive drug enforcement tactics of local police forces fill prisons, prop up their arrest stats and provide them with more OT$, and get gold stars pinned on their lapels. 

All at the hands of ONE white distributor who in all likelihood, will never be arrested. 

So where is the ROOT of the problem. Where are the drugs coming from? A highly disproportionate number of white distributors funneling drugs into black communities...

Sure they choose to deal...when there are no jobs and a very lucrative one is presented to you, it's quite appealing...

I think you might be wrong there, Scal. I get the impression, and I could be wrong because stats like this aren't readily available, that the highest dudes up on the food chain -- the distributors and producers -- are probably South American, Cuban, Mexican, etc. There aren't a ton of White guys allowed to be running drugs into the major distribution centers given that that high in the drug trade is controlled mainly by gangs. I mean sure, the Hells Angels run the Canada/US border, but the Southern border is pretty much owned by the Cubans, Haitians, Mexican drug cartels, etc.

And Scal, I thought you said that the black drug dealers were mainly serving a white customer base earlier -- "The damage done by local law enforcement by ramping up the arrest and incarceration of black males because of the drug trade (a trade that serves the white community in FAR greater numbers) continues to perpetuate their destitute state in inner cities."? Now you are saying that the white man is poisoning black neighborhoods by bringing drugs into mainly black neighborhoods? Which is it?

Scal -- Then it sounds like you and I went to completely different schools. Clearly you are wise enough to realize that not everyone went through the same schooling experience as you, right? I mean I know I'm not the only one who learned about other races other than white folks while growing up. 

Maybe everyone is not as ignorant as you assume they are, Scal.

Last year, 7 seniors from a local Florida high school were pictured signing letters of intent to various colleges and universities on football scholarships. Each student/athlete had at least one family member standing behind them, smiling and enjoying this proud moment. There were mothers,grandmothers,sisters, and even aunts whose names were included amongst those looking on. A total of 18 people. But not one single solitary male.Not one.

The sad part is that no one who reads this post will be wondering what race/ethnicity these young men were. They already know.

I can assure you, black history is largely ignored in schools because it is a wretched one which whites believe, promotes their guilt for the sins of their fathers...

you cited several key figures and moments in black history and they were legitimate and important...unfortunately ALL of them concern overcoming white oppression, hence the quick blurbs from white teachers...

Where is the innovation, the advancement, the industry (i.e. the roots of this fairy tale called "the american dream")?...nowhere of course...because blacks were quarantined from large-scale and significant success through the barriers erected by racism and slavery...

I hope these textbooks also show MLK in a pool of blood, face-down on a hotel balcony...

followed by a discourse about how the single greatest black civil rights leader who promoted the advancement of a racially harmonious HUMANITY was muted with a bullet to cranium...

wonder if that's talked about to any extent by white students?

the overwhelming majority of blacks don't have access to the mass distribution channels necessary for large scale production and transport of these drugs...

The quick score is much more attractive considering their state.

Remember Scal, those were only your white teachers. Mine did more than just hit those figures and units with "quick blurbs" -- and I grew up in a mainly white neighborhood.

Yes, this is largely true. The question though is how long does that have to hamstring the black community now? Those barriers have largely been demolished, even you would have to agree with that. Sure, while we are at a point of complete racial equality in the laws, perhaps we are not in terms of societal attitudes. But even with that being true, how long does the slavery justification last for? When does it expire?

Don't you worry, Scal, that for a young black man who hears what are you are talking about, that it gives him a justification to say "well fuck it, why try to better myself? Look at what happened to my forefathers in the past. Hell, it still even effects me today! It's not worth it to try and advance my lot in life."

That built in/educated defeatist attitude is the enemy and what is holding back large portions of the black community, not white society.

Of course, you can't tell the story of MLK without discussing his death/assassination and the results of that crazed actions. Again, perhaps your educational upbringing was different than mine. But you are making a very bad error in judgment when you automatically project your educational experience and upbringing to all white individuals. One might even say you are "stereotyping" -- and I know someone like you wouldn't want to do that.

If past events are still going to be dwelled on here in the present, then let's be a little more realistic here...

If we are going to talk about the sins of our fathers, lets also discuss some of the things that the colored folk have now that they would not have ever dreamed about had their ancestors never been brought to this country hundreds of years ago.

I don't need to stereotype. It's clearly getting worse on its own. Look at what is going on with the Texas School Board and their sinister christian conservative reconstruction of the national textbook.

Scal -- yes, one part of the country is changing their curriculum and giving it a clear conservative point of view. 

You are still engaging in that what you appear to strenuously object to -- stereotyping and racism, albeit against white people. You seem to mistakenly believe that all white people, in all parts of the country, had similar upbringing and educational experiences as you. That's clearly not the case and I know you are smart enough to realize it. Despite that, you still maintain that because things are changing in Texas with the School Board, that means something about white people at large.

That my friend is taking a limited sample size and applying it broadly to the entire category of individual -- otherwise known as stereotyping.

It's the exact same thing as a white person basing their opinion of blacks as a race on newsworthy stories that show black people in a negative light or in a few isolated experiences of negative interactions with black people.

You took an Afro american studies class? No wonder our country is going to shit. The people that can get an education (that would be you, not the blacks because they cant get into college according to you) are studying how race has effected one group of people in american history and is undoubtedly biased towards the negative (has to be, because you dont have one single positive example).
