I have solutions. As I said in the previous post, NOTHING will get accomplished until White Privilege is acknowledged. White privilege arises from the fact that whites do not think of themselves in racial terms. They see themselves as rugged individualists. They are the captains of their own ship. What this fails to recognize is that a white run and owned society CONFERS power to white skin. You counter with, "BUT I'm NOT A RACIST! I have black employees! ONLY Green matters to me!"
Unfortunately, for the majority of the country, this is untrue. And it is borne out everywhere we look! But here's the key! It is also NOWHERE as well. Because it has become the NORM. And white individuals take the norm and say that anything that regresses from that norm of achievement has failed to work hard enough to be a success. And that is as misguided as the captain of the Titanic making a wrong turn.
We see it everywhere. We see it in corporations (white-collar jobs are dominated by not so ironically, whites). I'll pretty much guarantee 90% of everyone on here has primarily white neighbors and lives in white communities. There is white glorification everywhere on TV, billboards, the news, movies, magazines, and sadly, all throughout history as our 'greatest achievers' (as though blacks could have taken part in let's say, The Continental Congress while they were being flogged naked and strapped to yokes like the nearby ox never to have their names etched in revolutionary stone for all to admire).
This is a possessive investment in the white way. It has benefited for so long, there is little reason to divert now . And again, for a person like Tim, it's subconsciously ingrained, never to be pulled out and dusted off from deep within the recesses of his mind, if it's even there at all.
When you go to buy a house? You make the biggest purchase of your life in a white, 'safe' community. Can blacks reside here? Maybe one or two. But when it turns to three, heads turn. Soon it might be ten, and then people start crossing their arms and whispering. When it gets to 30%/40%, the tipping point, whites won't even let them get to the majority.
They will move the hell out, packing up their things so fact you'll think a tornado touched down and swept away all the white faces! Where do they go? Another white community! But really, the tale about blacks even getting to 40% mark in a white community is a joke because of discriminatory lending practices by big banks AND the fact there will be pushback by a white community on real estate agents who do the selling, castrating the unalienable freedom to purchase a home where you want (I spoke about "Net Worth" in previous posts if you are a new silent reader. Please illuminate yourself with the previous 9 pages of this thread. Thanks.

) Since there is no black NET WORTH, for the most part due to decades of discrimination passed on to each subsequent generation (and the advantages of nepotism therein), they can't become part of these neighborhoods and remain in dangerous (because of aforementioned desperation) inner cities.
How can we change? Admit to White Privilege! Admit you are a beneficiary of fortunate circumstance of your parents and white ancestors. OR admit you get preferences from a white owned world! Then choose to speak about and pass on those benefits to those who have suffered at the expense of your privilege.
Sometimes White Privilege isn't even about the benefits of your soot-faced coal digging grandparents (effective poignant imagery to garner support for your "Bootstrap" solution...doesn't work on me because my grandparents did largely the same....as did many "Euro-immigrant-whites"). Because of your skin color, you IMMEDIATELY get preferences for schools, housing, employment, loans, treatment from the general public, treatment from the police...
And then you become trapped, believing "This is the way it is for all and anyone who doesn't experience this can blame themselves for the most part".
That is pure goobledygook! You regress from your mental norm (fortified by white privilege) and expect EVERYONE should do and experience the same. Blacks BEGIN at the extreme you regress TO and you expect them to just waltz in the opposite direction with the greatest of ease.
Which leads to your woeful and embarrassing exchange with a young black male looking for employment...
I'm crucified for bringing up slavery and he hears it from a white employer's mouth within 3 minutes of an interview...WOW...nice hiring process you have there...
Only strengthens the notion I've been spreading all along...
