Wow, that is risky,  indeed.  You might be surprised to find out the s&p has outperformed since  your transition to all gold in the last 10 years.  Gold is an excellent hedge vehicle,  but I question its status as a primary vehicle in anybody's portfolio.   You're dancing w fire on that one.  Bonds are the most susceptible to an inflationary environment,   when it inevitably takes form.  The bluest of the blue stocks that aren't the technology behemoths of today,  will be the ones left standing w the ability to pass on costs in a crazy inflationary world.  Think P&G, KO, WMT, HD, JPM....

 I would have scant interest in Gold if it weren't for the great financial irresponsibility by our government leaders.   What you say about paper currency is true, but it only occurs when there is public mistrust of government policy.   We haven't reached that breaking point,.............yet

I only started buying gold 3 years or so ago, because I see virtually no path to fiscal responsibility,  and our U.S. elected leaders continue to spend. 

Foreign governments have gotten on this bandwagon,  too, thus gold's precious gains these last few years.
