The rumor coming into today's match was that Paolini is feeling ill and her complete lack of energy out there seems to confirm that. She also stopped Sab's service motion towards the end to let out a nasty sounding cough. Just something to keep an eye on. Her game is all about hustling to get to balls and if she can't do that (as was the case today) she's cooked. |

@JoseAlonso787 Well Rybakina was flawless yet again. I've watched nearly every match during her current streak and she has looked untouchable most of the time. At this point I think she'll win the whole thing. Normally I would expect her to choke at some point but considering she never wavered when her back was against the wall to get qualified I think I'm going to have to ride the Rybakina train until the wheels fall off. |

@JoseAlonso787 I definitely think that Rybakina has a good chance to swing some upsets here but I like Anisimova today. |

Serving like that you would've thought there was no way she loses that set serving at 5-2. You have to credit Tjen for fighting back though and also fighting back in the first set breaker too. I went back and forth this morning between taking the -4.5 or 2-0. Odds were similar but ultimately decided on the spread because sometimes a good gameplan against Tjen (mainly keeping it away from her forehand) can get her in a hole early before she eventually figures things out and dominates. Sort of like how Linda Fruhvirtova did earlier in the week. Linda played great tactically and definitely could have won that match if not for her fitness issues which were massively compounded in that heat. Tjen's backhand wing has improved dramatically though ever since we scored the massive upset with TSRR in that Brazilian final. Her topspin backhand is trash but now she's moved much more to the defensive slice backhand over and over until she gets the opportunity to destroy with the forehand. |

@glenjean I try to pay attention to what's happening in juniors and there's been a lot of hype around her. Watched her for the first time against Hibino and was really impressed. Parry is typically a much better player than Hibino but I watched her a couple weeks ago against Putinseva and last week against Cocci and she was in poor form with practically zero confidence. These late season tournaments always seem to be random coming out parties for players too, even if you don't hear from them again for months or even years. |

@dayknight Very impressive first set. Nervous start down 0-3 and double break and then she wins 6 straight games. She's definitely talented. Barely any pro matches but she won girls Wimbledon this year. |

Most of the girls in Cali played last week in Florianopolis, Queretaro, or Ibague. You would expect the ones who played well at Queretaro or Ibague to be more acclimated to the altitude in Cali. Most matches will have plenty of breaks and double faults and sometimes tanking of a set that gets out of hand which makes playing game spreads tricky. |
