I will give you and example let’s say you have a 175k bankroll buying points is the norm my friend trust me I know. I don’t need to gamble on a Vegas point spread that I can buy my own to my risk tolerance. If you’re not winning much then my method makes no sense.

Ok let’s wrap this conversation up. You were on the “correct” side with the jets who barely managed 100 yards. I would imagine for a serious gambler like yourself you had at least 5k on the game. So your $5k wager won you about $3500 at -145 +9.5.
If you had taken the jets at +7 right around even money at multiple times throughout the week, you’d be up right around $5k. So your ridiculous buy to 9.5 actually cost you $1500. But as a very serious gambler I’m sure you already understand this concept and how it affects your ROI over a lifetime of gambling. Congrats on your victory. Next time I hope you place your wager in a way that makes you a ton more money.

@KingRGIII Hey KingRGIII...a win is a WIN! If he believes it will be a low scoring defensive game and the scoring will be field goals...+9.5 makes sense!

Interesting thread to read for a hobby type player like myself. Fifty units - that’s gigantic - BOOM ! . I do have a question… why did you buy to 9.5 and not 10.5 ? From what I’ve read 10 is more of a key number than 9

Ok I’m not a fortune teller but I have a great grip on the outcome of a game. The key #9 let’s look the score was 13-11 let’s say the broncos scored again which they almost did that would make the score 20–11 what’s the key remaining number “9” right?? It’s based off your bankroll. The trolls on this post don’t bet a lot of money or money they can afford to lose poise they lose. I get that but don’t come at someone who does this full time and tell me I don’t know what I’m doing. Also people say money lost off buying points. First off that money was never collected so how could it be lost?? It was a leverage move and it worked. Also I wager mlb, which I hit great moneyline plays so everything offsets in the end.

Thanks for the info. Bankroll ! Got it ! , i just like to see how people think when it comes to buying pts and other types of plays. All kinds of different approaches. Different strokes for different folks I guess

Let’s revisit this now that week 6 has concluded. There was not a single game where buying points would have gained you anything. You could make a very poor case that you could have bought the Saints up to +6 at a ridiculous price and gotten a push out of it, but again that would have been foolish.
Im happy for any person on this planet that is winning money at sports betting. But to advocate buying points is foolish and has been discussed at length on this forum over the years. Buying points will do nothing but cost you in the long run. Try selling them if you want to be more profitable.

Thats exactly what I've been thinking lately selling points in counterintuitive situations has possibly the most potential for value... like look if you sold points on Atlanta, KC etc. takes a lot of skill but it can be a super strat

If you think buying points is foolish then it’s a hobby for ya and that’s fine but when you get to my neighborhood it’s not foolish at all it’s called consistency something I have done for over 15 years.

Funny, I had Atlanta outright and Chiefs Moneyline. Consider that the vig I gave up on the Chiefs was collected by Atlanta's outright win, which I ended up cleaning up on, along with the points. Again, my method requires a bankroll to be successful.
