I would say forget about the devil and figure out the story of christ

the idea is to believe [have faith] in yourself without being overly critical of your mistakes

it can apply to religon,sports,war,politics,life

If there is heaven and hell,  I'll gladly go to Satan with the rest of my family members and friends.

I'm not down with exclusive clubs that require a lifelong commitment basically telling you how you should live your life.

this is one of many reasons why religion is so prevalent, even today.  it's natural, and the human psyche has evolved, to apply a simplistic solution to complex problems we don't or can't understand.  it is similar to our innate pain response.  both physically and mentally, humans gravitate towards an increased level of comfort.  if something is painful, we avoid it because pain is a undesirable state.  if something is too complex to understand, we avoid that state by assigning a simple solution to it. 

and what could be more simplistic that God, who is personified as a he of all things, is the answer to these questions.  plus God loves me and heaven, etc has the added psychological bonus of not only be simplistic but comforting.
