well i do not believe in the existence of satan becasue i am not a christian. i am altheist.  if you are a true christian then u have to believe in the existence of satan.

Why is it too obvious?  Becuase there is good and evil so their HAS to be someone or something controlling people or things?

Why do people believe in religion?  Because that's what we are supposed to believe in.  It was placed into our minds through our parents, or the media.  People have no logical explanation as to why god exists, no conrete evidence.  Yet, there is plenty of evidence to support the belief that there is no god.  People used to believe that the sun was pulled through the sky by a god.  Now that we have science to explain why that is not so, that is a ridiculous theory.  People can't explain why certain things happen, so there MUST be a higher power controlling it.

This is the whole problem, I pretty much agree with posts 51 and 56 even though they basically contradict each other.

I'm split, its really one of those things that I just dont know for sure. My brain tells me one thing and sometimes I feel another.

Your brain (like mine) tells your to be logical and realize there is no power that controls everything that we do.  But something else says "If I don't believe I may go to hell so I have nothing to lose"

Thats the scare tactic I'm talking about, if you don't believe in anything and there really is no heaven, then we are all in the same boat when we die.  But if there is a heaven, then your damned for all eternity.  So go to church right now and give all your money to child molesting priests!

If there was a "devil" or "satan," why wouldn't they have shown themselves by now?

Love how whenever something good happens to someone (like barely escaping death)  they were blessed to have that happen, and god made it happen but when something bad happens (girl getting raped) did god make that happen too?  It seems god only is around when something good happens, why didnt god prevent the girl from getting raped?

No.....God is the instrument of fear to control the masses.  The polar opposite (the devil) had to be made up to offset the idea of God so if you angered him you'd be sent to the worst place imaginable.

My theory is this.....many years ago in some village the elders or leaders needed a way to control the masses.  While they couldn't have total watch over them they made up this imaginary God who lives in the sky and watches over everyone.  If you don't do what he says (which is follow the rules of those elders) you wouldn't get into this perfect place in the sky.  That was the easiest way to control the masses and hence the phrase "the fear of God".   As other cultures and areas of the world picked up on this it changed as does any tall tale that travels around, so you get your Buddhas and others depending on what those men in the different parts of the world wanted their people to believe.  Write some books about it and make up some fairy tale stuff and you've got yourself a controlled society.

Science will eventually disprove all... 

Basically, this is how I see it: you either believe in science OR religion but you can't believe in both.

You either believe in faith, gods, heavens, Jesus' miracles... OR
You believe in logic, gravity, evolution, reason, etc.

How could a scientist believe in something that can't be proven?
How could a religionist believe in evolution?

To answer the question, I believe in Satan as much as I believe in God... I don't.
